I work as a laborer in Georga. The average pay for a 60 hour week is about $5.88. My employer is currently paying me 2.00 a week. I believe I deserve the same pay as the next white man. I started attending school today. It is an interesting place. A few of the freed men from the plantation I served at are in the same school house as me. It is nice to have familiar faces nearby. The southerners still don't treat me as a normal human being outside of the required laws. I think that it was a success in the sense that the north and south learned to work again and the slaves got freed. I also think that the country chose to give the blacks the same rights as the whites, because without that then they would have still been taken advantage of, even worse than segregation.

I think that reconstruction failed in the sense that the country is still rebuilding. The black population is still thought of as outsiders in certain places. I also think that laws should have been made against segregating the black population.
