Michaela and Hailey's talks are both different as Michaela talks about other peoples mental health struggles, while Hailey talks about her own. Moreover, Hailey is more effective in spreading information about youth mental health. Hailey created an organization and a law for the students in Oregon to have mental health days.

Hailey shares her mental health journey and how mental health days benefited her. Hailey also used research to support her argument. Lastly, Hailey took action and got a law passed about allowing students to have mental health days.

I think both of the girls speeches are very powerful and meaningful to the audience they were targeting. I believe that Michaelas speech was more to spread awareness about teens mental health, while Hailey's was more about her solution to the problem of teens mental heath. This made it very challenging for me to pick a side, However I think Michaela's speech was more effective. My reasoning for this is because she gathered information anonymously from students. I think most of the people in our class would agree with me when I say, teens are more likely to express how they feel about certain things over an anonymous form/website/etc. I think that students are more likely to express true emotion and feelings in ways where people won't know their true identity. The responses that she shared are also more likely to touch parents deeply, considering the topics students talked about. On top of that though, Michael is more pushing for the adults in teen's lives to do things about the situation. While she did this, Hailey provided more of a solution to the problem.

When comparing Michaela's and Hailey's speeches the are under the same topic, however Hailey's was more of a direct target at a problem and solution while Michela just tells us about stress and how that effected some people. One can see that Michela's main argument was that teens experience and cope with this stress in many different ways and the preferred to tell an anonymous survey about their problems then a professional. Yes, this is a very big deal, however, this argument lacked the use logos. Her message has a very powerful meaning but lacks the support and facts behind it. On the other hand we see Hailey's speech. This was a well rounded argument that used ethos, logos, and pathos. Her problem had a solution, as well as a cause. She applied her speech to everyone making it a universal experience. On top of all this she has already set her solution in motion; making mental health days a real thing in the state of Oregon. Both girls are doing amazing things and have a bright future.

Both Michaela and Hailey's speech showed the important of mental health and its awareness. However, Michaela's speech was more impactful. Michaela Horne used Pathos to communicate with the audience how serious mental health is. She shared personal stories of how she received responses from a variety of students who felt unworthy and suicidal. She even stated how one student shared the exact date of when they were going to commit suicide. This story shows the audience how stress and overwhelmingness can impact just one person. These experiences that Michaela had proves to the audience that mental health can be just as serious as ALS.

Michaela addresses the issue in a different way, plucking at the listener's heart strings to try and get them to empathize with teens struggling with their mental health. Both reached their target audience while still portraying the same idea: Teens need more time to focus on their mental health.

I find it absolutely astonishing that a teenager was able to pass a law for students to have mental health off days when they feel burned out and depressed. She also used pathos, logos, and ethos to her advantage to appeal to the audience. Hailey organized and helped pass a bill to give students in Oregon mental health days which she believed were necessary for students when they needed. This shows her credibility and is when she took advantage of ethos. She also used facts such as suicide being the second main cause of death for teenagers to back up her goal of giving mental health days. This fact also worked as pathos because of its emotional impact it had on the audience.
