The rise of Hitler was supported by the grievances of the German people during the Interwar years. The Treaty of Versailles had placed a huge financial burden on Germany, that coupled with the ongoing global depression had absolutely crippled the German economy and left many citizens poor and starving, leading to a desire to get back at the allies and stop abiding by the Treaty of Versailles, furthermore the treaty demilitarized Germany, hurting the citizens pride and generating fear that Germany would be too weak to defend against any enemies. Hitler wrote a book about Germany's struggle and preached against the Treaty of Versailles and the people who allowed it to come into place, leading to his quick assent up the political ladder. Hitler planed to restore prosperity, create civil order by targeting and crushing industrial strikes and street demonstrations by communists and socialists, eliminate the influence of Jewish financiers, and make the fatherland once again a world power by dominating other nations. Mussolini's grievances include the fact that Italy did not receive as much territory as it thought it would in the Treaty of Versailles, in coming to power Mussolini planed to reverse this and also to be the strongest force on the mediterranean, but he was already beaten by Britain and France. Mussolini wanted Italy to gain power and land and stand with or above the other powers, he even dreamed of restarting the Roman empire. In the 1920s Mussolini and Italian fascists targeted Yugoslavs, especially Serbs. They accused Serbs of having "atavistic impulses" and they claimed that the Yugoslavs were conspiring together on behalf of "Grand Orient masonry and its funds". One anti-Semitic claim was that Serbs were part of a "social-democratic, masonic Jewish internationalist plot". The New Deal was a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms, and regulations enacted in the US by president Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1933 and 1939 meant to act on the "3 R's". The first R is relief and stands for relief for the unemployed and poor, this was done by supplying Unemployment benefits, or payments made by authorized bodies to unemployed people.  The second "R" is recovery, recovery of the economy back to normal levels by providing support to businesses and and farmers. The 5 Year Plans were a series of plans formulated by Joseph Stalin and his government in order to industrialize russia as quickly as possible and collectivize agriculture, this was done because Stalin believed that a communist nation should be an industrial one based on the worker, not an agricultural one, this was based on the philosophy of Carl Marx. In order to achieve the goals thousands or millions of russian peasants who worked on their own farms were forced to work in state owned or centralized farms, those that refused were executed or sent to the labor camps known as Gulags.
