Social Skill: Give and receive feedback

Explicit:

Watch the video on peer critique and ask students to observe and take notes about what is the criteria for feedback. Have a group discussion and as a class co-construct criteria together. For example, Feedback needs to be kind, helpful, clear and specific.

Implicit:

Provide students with the opportunity to peer-assess any of their work against criteria and give feedback that meets the criteria.

Approaches to learning skill: Manage and resolve conflict, and work collaboratively in teams

Explicit learning experience: Students watch an instructional video in the target language about conflict resolution. Students will use a graphic organizer to take notes of the offered strategies. Students will then discuss strategies and reflect on how they can be used in class.

Implicit learning experience: Students are given a prompt with a description of a personal conflict between friends. Students will provide solutions/advice to resolve the conflict. Students share out and collaboratively decide on an effective source of action.

Explicit Learning Experience:

We will play a video of an unfamiliar language where nonverbal communication is apparent. Proceed to play Kahoot! with multiple choice questions on "what do you see?" (facial expressions, close talking, etc.) relating to the video.

Implicit Learning Experience:

Get students to create a skit in groups displaying different forms of nonverbal communication, present to class.

At the end, give exit cards to students with emojis on them; they circle the corresponding emojis they saw represented in the skit.

Explicit: Students will take a field trip in their local area, and in groups, they will document examples of extractivists within their community.

Implicit: Students will independently evaluate the implications of what they saw and develop questions about the potential to create long-term effects.
