They are not treated as a part of the community and not allowed to attend any ritualistic function if they refuse to undergo the procedure.
As this is bended in most part of the world by considering it as a violation of women rights but in some areas it's still illegally happing for an unknown and meaningless reason .

Recently, I read about a young girl who had not only been go through FGM but also her vagina was  stitched by her mother during childhood so that her virginity will be secured and she will not involve in any guy or attempt masturbation. Even the worse situation when on her first night of marriage her husband cut off the stitches by the help of his mother and brother and  exposing  her infront of his family. 
This practice is extremely non-sense which is done in the name of religion and had become part of some cultures.
