One example from my city are the constant floodings and how it affects the socially vunerable population that is the majority living in the floaded areas. Since the housing in this areas is usually illegal these are the most acessible for the economic vunerable population. One solution I can think of is not only realocating this population to more appropriate areas but also controling the flood in the urban spaces. My example of solution is my Bachelor's thesis where I proposed the creation of a floor park near to the main river to act like a water reservoir and minimize the impacts of the flood in the city.

The 'Porto do Capim' region in João Pessoa city was the first port in the colonization process that started in the 16th century and gone through intense changes in the urban occupation, being a transportation hub, industrial area, until started being neglected and occupied by low-income families more than 200 hundreds years ago. Their cultural and economic relationship with the Sanhauá river has strengthen with time, but the community suffered cinstantly with floods, problems with infrastructure and neglection from the government. After decades of public debate, the political outcome was to plan a big "ecological" park on the area, relocating hundreds of families to far areas of the city. The layers of architectural and cultural heritage of the district, cultural heritage of the communities, low infrastructure of the houses creates a complex situation hard to solve. The solution proposed by many sectors of the public university and organizations was to involve a series of professionals from many areas, to treat the complexity of the project with respect and responsability, balancing the new infrastructure, the ecological demands and the community presence in the area.

Problem: The water quality of the river is very poor and a large amount of household waste has accumulated on both banks over the years.
Solutions: The government began restoration in 2016, with water filters installed at intervals. The banks were cleared of rubbish and a greenway was created. And some interesting water-friendly platforms have been installed.

Contaminated Wheat Fields -- Excessive Cadmium Levels, in Dakuai town, Xinxiang City, Henan Province, China

As the most concentrated concentration of nickel-cadmium battery material workshops in China ten years ago, the small nickel-cadmium battery production workshops in Dazhuo Town were very popular, and there were 140 in the town during its heyday. In order to reduce economic costs and avoid environmental penalties, large-scale battery manufacturing factories split their manufacturing operations and process them by small workshops. The production of batteries will generate a lot of industrial wastewater, but such small workshops do not have complete sewage treatment facilities. They will simply treat the sewage or discharge it directly into the waterway. Although businesses have closed, rivers and land polluted by industrial wastewater are difficult to restore. The government expropriated the surrounding land and turned it into seedling land where commercial crops are prohibited. But the surrounding residents are still secretly planting wheat on the polluted land and making illegal profits. In addition, the polluted land has seriously affected the health of residents in nearby villages and towns, and many villagers are unable to give birth to healthy children.
Nowadays, goveronment closed the nearby companies that had not passed the environmental protection audit, and blocked the polluted area for the transfer of cultivated land. Using a more traditional method, planting heavy metal adsorption plants, hoping to use vegetation restoration technology to deal with and control. Since heavy metals will migrate, they should be replaced by chemical leaching and other methods, so that the contaminated soil can be completely restored to the state of cultivated land. But local governments cannot afford the funding needed for the technology. At present, we can only rely on the ecological self-repair here.

Beijing Garden Expo Brownfield Restoration
The site is located in Beijing, China, and is the venue for the 9th Garden Expo. The original state of the site is a construction waste landfill, with an unfilled gravel pit of about 20hm2 in the middle. The substrate at the bottom of the pit is the sand and pebble soil layer of the Yongding River channel, the side walls and the top are construction waste landfill, and most of it is bare land on the river bank, with no grass and extremely poor ecological environment.
First of all, the topography of the soil layer in the site is treated with pollution purification and base reinforcement. Further, the planning takes recycled water purification as the core function and mainly adopts compound vertical flow process to build a compound artificial wetland ecological park. Plants are mostly selected from pioneer tree species with strong adaptability and good soil effect, which is also a biological means to accelerate the ecological restoration of the site. The ecological permeable materials can collect a large amount of rainfall, replenish groundwater, reduce urban heat island effect, and let the land "breathe" freely in nature.
