         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. <strong>Sectionalism</strong> - To be more loyal to a region of a country than to the country as a whole.</div><div>2. <strong>Secede</strong> - To leave a big religious company. Southern states seceded from the Union.</div><div>3. <strong>Border</strong> <strong>ruffians</strong> - A group of pro-slavery Missourians who we used to in the Civil war who had to cross the border of Kansas.- I continued to serve as a Border Ruffian.</div><div>4. <strong>Arsenal</strong> - It’s a place where military equipment is made and stored.</div><div>5. <strong>Fugitive</strong> - Is a person that is running away or trying to escape from jail or is a fugitive prisoner.- It was a famous fugitive slave case.</div><div>6. <strong>Popular</strong> sovereignty - Its a political place in the United States that the people who live in a state should also have to decide what kind of government or laws they should have.- The popular sovereignty position argued that voters living there should decide.</div><div>7. <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>War</strong> - The American Civil War was between two sections of US society.- The country is really close to civil war.</div><div>8. <strong>Martyr</strong> - A martyr is someone who is willing to die for his or her beliefs. - He was a martyr.</div><div>9. <strong>States</strong> <strong>rights</strong> - state’s rights are that each state has their own rights and some places are way different than others and we all should be considered on how other people think or would like to say.- Everyone needs their states' rights.</div><div>10. <strong>Border</strong> <strong>state</strong> - The Border states are those states that the American Civil War did not leave.- In the border states there was widespread concern with the military.</div><div>11. <strong>Blockade</strong> - its to close off of a place to try to stop the other people from coming in or going out.- The American commodore was now able to blockade.</div><div>12. <strong>Offensive</strong> - To say something that could hurt someone's feelings and it also may be rude.= That was very offensive.</div><div>13. <strong>Rebel</strong> - To break the rules or not listen to them nor follow them and do the opposite.- He is a typical teenage rebel.</div><div>14. <strong>Yankee</strong> - a person born or living in the northern United States.</div><div>15. <strong>Blockade</strong> <strong>runner</strong> - . A blockade runner is usually a lighter-weight ship used for slipping.- He has a duty against blockade runners.</div><div>16. <strong>Ironclad</strong> -sheathed in iron armor.- He has an ironclad alibi.</div><div>17. <strong>Casualty</strong> - a person who is hurt or killed in a war by something like a disaster or accident.- This guy has been Casualty hurt.</div><div>18. <strong>Emancipate</strong> - its to set free from control or slavery.- New York court allowed Drew to emancipate herself from her mother's care at age 15.</div><div>19. <strong>Ratify</strong> - it is to approve in an official way or to confirm.- The Senate ratified the treaty.</div><div>20. <strong>Habeas</strong> <strong>Corpus</strong> - They require a person who has been arrested or imprisoned to be brought to a judge or into court.- In court, the arrester would have to prove to the judge that chewing gum is illegal and you were breaking the law</div><div>21. <strong>Draft</strong> - a version of something written or drawn that has or will have more than one version. I finished the rough draft of my report.- He avoided the draft because of a foot injury.</div><div>22. <strong>Bounty</strong> - money given as a reward The sheriff offered a bounty for the bandit's capture.- The rest of the immortals had a bounty on my head.</div><div>23. <strong>Greenback</strong> - it is a legal-tender note issued by the U.S. government. - Of the Greenback party in 1882.</div><div>24. <strong>Inflation</strong> - Inflation changes the ratio of the same amount of money will get a lower amount of a good or service.- The inflation of a balloon The government has been unable to control inflation.</div><div>25. <strong>Entrenched</strong> - 'Unhealthy habits are entrenched in the lives of British children by the time they are 11 years old.- Our soldiers have entrenched themselves behind the battle lines.</div><div>26. <strong>Total</strong> <strong>war</strong> - Total war is the most extreme form of warfare, one where any action or behavior is acceptable to stop the enemy.- Despite his strong distaste for war, Lincoln was not afraid to wage total war to achieve total victory.</div><div>27. <strong>Reconstruction</strong> - they were rebuilding the South after the Civil War and it is called the Reconstruction.- The police staged a reconstruction of the crime.</div><div>28. <strong>Amnesty</strong> - Amnesty means forgetting past deeds, so that they may not become an issue in the future- Illegal immigrants who came into the country before 1982 were granted amnesty.</div><div>29. <strong>Radical</strong> - Radical, from Latin radix "root", may refer to: in science and mathematics.- This decision signified a radical change in their policies</div><div>30. <strong>Freedmen</strong> - a person freed from slavery.- undoubtedly included many freedmen who in point of services and economic subjection were not very much above the slaves</div>]]></description>
