Students can interact with the wall by adding new words, using them in sentences, and participating in vocabulary games. This accommodates various developmental levels by offering visual and interactive support.

Resources:

https://www.readingrockets.org/article/vocabulary-activities

Comprehension:

Classroom Activity:

Activity: Think-Pair-Share

After reading a story, students think about a comprehension question, discuss their thoughts with a partner, and share with the class. This accommodates different developmental levels by providing opportunities for both individual thinking and collaborative discussion.

Resources: Teaching English Language Learners | Colorín Colorado

Reflection on Supporting Students with and without Exceptionalities:

Supporting students with and without exceptionalities requires an understanding of their individual needs and employing differentiated instruction. For students with exceptionalities, such as English language learners (ELL) or special education students, providing visual aids, interactive activities, and specific resources can boost their learning experience. For example, using word walls with pictures and theme based vocabulary helps ELL students connect words to concepts. Additionally, incorporating different sensory activities, like Think-Pair-Share, engages all learners in an interactive environment.

For students without exceptionalities, these strategies also promote active engagement and deeper understanding. By using research-based best practices, such as specific vocabulary instruction and comprehension strategies, teachers can support all students in developing strong reading skills. Continuous assessment and feedback allow teachers to adjust instruction to meet the diverse needs of their students, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Creating an inclusive classroom where all students feel valued and supported is key to fostering a positive learning environment and promoting literacy development for all learners.
