SilverStar waited patiently until Ripplewhisker had assigned the dawn patrol Dawnsky and her apprentice Sparklingpaw. Ripplewhisker would be joining them, but he first left orders for Cloudedsky and his apprentice Dappledpaw to join with Pinesong for a hunting patrol. Then she walks over to ThrushTail's den.
"Hello, Silverstar! Do you need anything?"
"No, no, no. I just wondered if you or Shadedpaw needed a warrior or other to accompany you for herb gathering. I'm free!"
"Normally that would be great, but we have a full stock and--wait, could you please collect some borage quickly. You'll find it near Thunderclan's border. It looks like this." Thrushtail stuck out a pawfull of borage to show Silverstar.
"Sure..." Silverstar loped out of the Riverclan camp and made her way along the lake to the Thunderclan border. As she neared it, her nose was filled with the scent of borage, yarrow, and catmint. Nosing around some ferns, Silverstar carefully plucked as many borage leaves as her jaws could hold, before dashing back to camp.
"Here you are!" she said, dropping the borage beside Thrushtail, "Also, i scented yarrow and catmint by the border if you're interested."
"Thanks Silverstar! See you later!" Thrushtail called. As she waled out of the medicine den, she ran into a couple of apprentices back from patrolling, both trying to carry a humongous piece of moss. Silverstar laughed to herself, and took the moss in her own, larger jaws. "You two go and fetch some more. Not more than you can hold, though!" The appentices bounded off, still a little shocked that Silverstar was carrying out an apprentice task. We can't expect others to do what we aren't willing to do ourselves. Silverstar gently kneaded the moss into a comfortable nest for Mistystep while the apprentices returned with more moss and a few pawfulls of soft bracken. When the nest was finished and the den of woven brambles and reeds was patched up, Mistystep climbed in and stretched while Shadedpaw emerged from the medicine den with some mousebile for her ticks. Thushtail called Silverstar aside as soon as Shadedpaw had gone, "I'm thinking about having his ceremony tonight at the Moonpool. He's learned all he could from me."
"That sounds great! What will you call him?"
"His name will be Shadedmoss."
Silverstar purred, "That's a fantastic name! I just wish I could be there to see."
"Thrushtail playfully butted Silverstar's shoulder with her broad head, before Silverstar left to speak with Pinesong, the three apprentices' mother.
"Pinesong," she said as the two she-cats curled up together in the leader's den, "Your son will be receiving his medicine cat name tonight, and it will be Shadedmoss like you discussed with Thrushtail and I earlier. Your two daughters are ready to become warriors as well, do you have any names you like?"
"Thanks, Silverstar. How about...Dappledfur? No, dappled light. And for Sparklingpaw...Sparklingwater, please."
"Those are perfect names!" Silverstar gave Pinesong a quick lick between the ears, "And Dewlily's kits will be just in time to become apprentices as well! Why don't we have their ceremony tonight before we share tongues. I have already spoken to Dewlily."
The two she-cats talked late into the day, before Silverstar stepped up to the Riverstone.
"All cats who are old enough to swim, gather beneath the Riverstone for a clan meeting! We have two very important ceremonies to carry out today!"
"First, Rainkit, Stormkit, Sunkit come forward." each neatly groomed kit bounded up to stand in a clumsy line before Silverstar. She said the ancient words and made them into apprentices. Then she named the two warrior apprentices from Dappledpaw to Dappledlight and Sparklingpaw to Sparklingwater.
Rainpaw was apprenticed to Cloudedsky, Stormkit was apprenticed to Sparklingwater, and Sun kit was apprenticed to Dappledlight.
