Gold-

Hernando's main reason of exploring was Gold, in 1532 he was in search of greater riches, and land for his country Spain. This is much like Cortez and his conquers, when then found the Aztecs civilization. They began to become thirsty for their land and riches. Their main cities were twice as big as any european cities. When the Aztecs sent away the spanish. They retaliated, Cortez and his men concored what is now modern day Mexico. Hernando and his men were much like this in the sense of them both in search of riches, and land for spain. Cortez and his conquers, took over what is now Mexico and Hernando and his men conquered what is Peru today for spain. If someone was to discover and conquer other countries like Hernando and Cortez, they would have huge consequences. This is like WW2. Germany was trying to conquer more and more land to be own and rules by hitler and his Natzi army. Most of the world came together to fight against germany. Germany and their allies fell and got pushed back to their territories. The world today has laws in place so brutal conquers such as Herndo and Cortez can't exist.

Glory-

Hernando was also in search of glory for himself and for his country, Spain. His is much like Ferdinand Magellan, Ferdinand went out in 1519 with five ships, to go and explore a western sea route to the Indies. He was trying to be the first one find a faster route. He would become the first european to cross over the entirety of the Pacific ocean. He succeeded in finding glory, because today the route that he took is known as the Strait of Magellan. Hernando was also looking for glory. He wanted to conquer more land for Spain's empire. He was looking to become a hero in the eyes of his country, which he would success at. In 1538 when he conquered what is present day Peru. Today one of the main reasons to explore is because of glory. Riches and land are pretty much all discovered, and religion has spread all around the world. What is left is glory, in the 60s many countries were in a race to be the first in space. The country that would reach space fist would be russia. They gained a lot of glory from the world.

When Hernando de Soto first found the natives of the Americas he violated what his king directions were. He was directed to discover, trade and with them. He made it clear that he was now in charge and everyone was under his lead. He saw them as less than him. He used his technological advancements such as guns and horses, to over take them. Soto then would either sentence them as slaves or servant to his army, would torture them, or finally would execute them. This is also like how African tribes would overtake another and then sell them into a life of torture and serves. If they did not comply they would be enslaved, mutilated, or executed.

In the beginning the natives thought, Hernando and his men were good men, so they welcomed and hosted them. They would feast and trade together. They thought that the Spanish men were good men trying to just explore and trade with the people that they met. After a will the Aztecs realized that their intentions were not as they appeared, and so they sent them away. This resulted in the Hernando and his men to retaliating.

What happened to the Aztecs?
The Aztec native were almost all killed or enslaved. We can see that in today's world, when we look at the remains of the Aztec empire. They are very little Aztec heritage left in our world. Also as a result the spanish had conquered most of mexico, this is the reason that the language that is spoken their is mainly spanish. They also build many structures that we can see today. They also changed the way that the land looked, they leveling parts of their new land to build cities.

Their are not a lot of primary resources for Hernando de Soto. I was able to find a letter that he wrote himself. They talk about the beautiful setting, new land, and the natives of the area. He also talks about how he thought that he was not getting honored enuff for what he had been doing. I is a lot like Christopher Columbus. He wrote letters about what he was witnessing to send back to his king. In Christopher Columbus's letters he write about the new land that he was exploring, the natives and the riches that was he had found. He also writes a lot about how great he is and how much

Hernando de soto had many men with him on his expedition to the west. He had 10 ships and over 700 men, that he had selected himself. Out of one of those men was a painter. He would paint picture of the actions that were taking place on their voyage. The reason that there aren't many in our world today is because when Hernando de Soto died, his men didn't know what to do. So they got rid of many of them. This image is representing the relationship that the natives and the spanish had. I show the native in their way. This shows that Hernando had no choice but to get rid of them. This is a lot like how Ferdinand Magellan, he would travel with many men of different talents. Among one of these men was a painter/scribe. They would document what was going on around them and create painting of their encounters.

Hernando and his men would trade things with the native and then would usually take some of them before they left, for servants and for direction of the land. When they would leave the natives would have new technology that they had not had before. This technologies would offect hold sickness that the native could not fight. THey would need usually fall ill and die. This is why we don't have that many native americans in the south. As they traveled further north west they found many different plants that they hadn't seen before.

When they reach the end of the their voyage they find their most significant discovery the Mississippi river. They had never seen something this big before. Today the Mississippi is very highly dense in population there are many large cities the coast the river. Also Hernando's men brought back of the of the plants that they had never seen before. Such as corn and pumpkins.

Hernando de Soto was one of the first European to trail as far as he did from the the gulf into the america. He did exactly start the colonization himself, but his discovery pushed the Spanish empire farther west. He played a big role in clearing the path for European expansion. He would take native american tribe, and ether execute them, or enslave them. Today we don't have many native american tribes in America. This is similar and in ways different from the why we discover today. In today's exploration. We usually forget to think about our effects on our world. This is like how the Spanish/ European explorers were not mindful of their effect on the native population. They thought that they were better than the native, much like how today we think that our pleasure and joy today is with the distraction of earth that it is causing.
