I worked with my group that contained me, Luca Monteiro, Alexa Allers, Maddie Bowling, and Leilanni Rodriguez. I was chosen to become the camera man for most of the project, but I played Mr. Exitsign for the final cut of the movie while Alexa filmed the scene where I helped the main character, Maddie, schedule an appointment to help her mental health because of a family problem. This short film was shot in two days in the courtyard of my school called Gulf Coast High school. 
   There were positive feedback on our film provided by both my classmates and my teacher. The class and my teacher can agree that the shots were most definitely clear and crisp, providing a good view of the actors and what's trying to be shown. The music provided was also said to be well placed and provided and brought a good environment to the film. But with the cons of our film, it lacked high quality scene shots. It was definitely needing more zoom in shots, less shots where our main character walks in frame, and more shots to eliminate transitions where it had wording to read like a book.

The original plot of original film was a ginger girl being bullied, and having her friend betray her in the middle of the story. But then, the bullies then apologize for bullying her due to her ginger hair, and the friend eventually makes up with the friend, and all 4 of them become friends together. 
     We improved it by making it about someone being bullied due to what they wear, and we included over the shoulder shots to give better visuals when they are talking to each other, we added lots for tracking and panning to create a sense that we are moving along the story with the character instead of having a still camera, and we added an establishing shot so its not just a random girl walking around the very second the movie starts. We also added zoom in shots, tilting shots, camera depth, and three shot of people talking. I was the camera man, and editor for the film, not taking place in any acting. 
Our camera movement, panning left and right and the tracking, was well criticized when we tracked, or panned the camera on the character, and our coloring and depth of the movie quality was proven to be good as well. It looked well, though, we had some feedback that the over-the-shoulder shot for when the two girls were talking at the end was off center, creating interest that something could be on the side that's so empty, but in reality , there isn't anything. So we could have centered our shot on the girls better to make the film look better. The genres presented were Adventure, Animation, Biographies, Comedies, Crime, Dramas, Family, Fantasy, Historical, Horror, Musical, Mystery, Romance, Science Fiction, Superhero, Sports, Thrillers, War, Western, B-movies, Indies, Film Noir, Documentaries, Shakespeare, and YA (Young Adult). To get information for our PowerPoints, we learned and researched about our own genre's convections like the characters and the story telling. We researched about codes including camera work and lighting. And audience expectations. We also had to present 3 movies in our genre and show a 2 minute or less clip, giving us a better idea of the genre each person was assigned. 
     I believe that our first film that we recorded and submitted would be labeled as a drama and indie short film. And for the second film I would label it to be the same aswell. I concluded with these genres since both films contained a problem with a character with others and themselves, and the first film gave a little backstory into the main characters problems to give the audience a feel of sadness. Both films as well contained two shots of people talking, either talking about the problem going on, or about the issue to harm the other, creating tension. But mostly, the second film created more fighting and arguing between characters to create a drama related film. Both films though can be labeled as indie since we used a low budget camera (phones) to record, and we only had lighting from the sky to help record. Along with the fact that we had no help with money on this film, and no money was ever contributed. Though, we could have added better music to the films to create a more tense or sad moment within a scene that could be troubling or sad, like the "Camp Rock" scene in the 2nd film since it seemed to be a more comedic feel instead of dramatic, making the audience feel off if the film is a drama film or a comedy film. 
     My personal favorite genre would have to be the Horror genre, since I love the feeling of being spooked and on my toes, while having the feeling of being creeped out or disturbed, as long as it's not happening to me. I could create a film where its a first person documented film about a person going about their lives, and having a paranormal event happen to them, eventually leading to a possession or death, or even trauma for the character. There would have to be lowkey lighting shots, single person shots, of the person in front, long shots, wide shots, and over the shoulder shots for if a person is in front of the camera standing still and the camera person is walking towards them. This is all to create a feeling of suspense and eeriness to the film. I would also want to give the audience a sense that they are on their toes, and are afraid to what may come next in the film. I have learned the concepts on editing with different editing concepts, along with creating documents holding 20+ different kinds of techniques, and a film "The Cutting Edge". I have learned about sound and how it can be adjusted to make a huge change in screenplay. and I have viewed different techniques and trialed with screenwriting and screenplay format with color by watching a documentary named "making waves," reading the entire script of "The Incredibles," and created a two-minute script for a screenplay opening for a film for my midterm project. 
     In my midterm film, I was required to put in many of the learned skills from the months of November through December into it. These were that it had to be one to two minutes, had to be a horror or horror-hybrid film, an opening to a film rather than it being the whole film itself, minimal dialogue in the film and lots of music, sound effects, and ambience, no wall-to-wall music, no long takes, starts in black with company indent and/ or logo and title. a minimum of three crosscuts of the actor and the nightmare, and this blog post to be posted with it. The film was also needed to include a vast majority of shots that our teacher has listed so that she believes will create a better looking film to our opener, one use of color for the story, sound effects, use of costume, makeup, or hair design, a piece of incidental music, and much more extra credit techniques that weren't required.
     Question A: I adhered with horror conventions with adding an unknown "monster" in the plot, a dark theme, and music that accompanies the film. For my horror codes I implemented lowkey lighting, and a large house or building. and I had horror engagement with the main charact6er being in a nightmare that can cause the audience to be scared along with him.
Question B: I broke horror conventions by not adding all of the needed spectrums including jump scares, a shown monster, a mistake from present or past, or a shown powerful monster in the dream. Though this was an opening to a film and wasn't the whole film, so those may come after. I broke codes by not adding any flashbacks, and by bringing to much light to the main character when not needed to. I do not believe I broke any audience engagement though in this opening. 
Question C: I brought the idea of a person who is afraid of the dark, and a person not liking the feeling of being alone and having them deal with a scary unknown force that destroys any part of them that feels confidence on being alone. There was only some told representation by the character being frustrated that he is alone outside. 
     Question A2: I believe the use of lowkey lighting was successful to demonstrate a horror element in this film, I believe that the use of music and sound effects was also used correctly in this film to create the sound of the monster and of the crowd in the back, and the use of outside noise, and I believe the pacing of the opener was well done as well.
Question B2: I believe the transitioning from one piece to the next was wonky in this piece because it had very few moments where the transitioning was well done. And I believe the use of lights in this film was also a letdown due to there being unnecessary light in some shots in the film. And the quality and sharpness of the fil could also be better, though that is just because of the transferring of the film to the computer messes up the quality.  
Question C2: I used a premade script and was revised by the teacher, I used my phone for shooting the film in the cold night of North Carolina, I used Cap Cut to edit my film as best as possible to make my film well made, I also used it for the sounds of my opener, but also used the audio from the raw shots themselves. and Music was implemented from my phone recordings, and from Cap cut. In the first two minutes of this film, it starts with showing us the name of the film, and the date of July 2nd. It then pans out of the American flag on the moon to a slate that says " Here men from the planet earth first set foot upon the moon. We came in peace for all mankind." It also has the signatures of all three astronauts that first set foot. Then, a huge shadow casts itself across the moon, and we see as the shadow covers the whole one side of the moon. Then we see a huge round ship that made the shadow, as it moves forward towards the Earth. Then, we cut to life on earth, then the clip ends. 
2. The genre for this film is a disaster sci-fi film, and the target audience was Y/A boys from about ages of 18-35 years old.
3.1 The very very beginning of the film shows the company names of "Twentieth Century Fox Presents" and "A Centropolics Entertainment Production" title name, with blue font, all bolded and capitalized text, on a black background, Then it also shows the date of when it takes place, before the film even starts with its first shot. 
3.2 It starts out with a pan out shot of the American flag on the moon, then it zooms in on the slate with the writing. Then it tracks left on the ground of the moon that seems to have air being blown on it, then it does a slow pan up to the ship as its shadow casts on the rest of the ship approaching earth.
4. The sound is very ambient and very shaky to give the feel that the ship is coming, and to give tension to what will follow. Also there is the noise of an astronaut on a radio which either resembles them communicating back to earth, or the ship hearing the people on earth talk (my guess).
5. I felt like this exact sentence. "Well good luck with that people of earth." It made me want to know how badly earth was going to lose, but also it wasn't super interesting where I'm on the edge of my seat.
6. I noticed they made sure to include very grey scale colorway in the clip to describe how the ship (aliens) are the darkness that's coming to earth which is the only thing colored along with the flag.
7. They kept the tension between a mysterious object or thing, it kept the beginning in space meaning aliens, and it gave the the feeling that there is a threat with its huge shadow and size coming to earth.
8. It didn't give to much of a disastrous feeling like the genre says it is, it didn't give much information other then there's a ship going to earth. And never shown any government cocky people or people with money at all.
9. It showed that the vast part of the universe that we don't know can still hold things outside of our understanding, and there's still more for us humans as a race in a planet to learn.
10. It was published and released into theaters first to show the audience what they have made, which started off as a huge success. Then after years, it was brought onto cable on places like HBO on demand. This was its way to try and bring the audience into seeing the movie again, and they didn't want it to die out. After all these years have passed, and with streaming services a popular place, it was obvious to have it on at least one of them. Which it has been on places like HBO Max and Netflix so that their film can still have popularity, revenue, and a spark left in it so people can re watch the movie that inspired many others all the way 25+ years ago. Then finally they published it on YouTube for around 2-3 dollars to watch and buy it so that they can gain viewers and buyers from the YouTube community as well. I must also capture the dim, lowkey lighting from the control room and the people in it trying to stop the incoming danger, while cutting to the bright as seemingly peaceful environment of the character Thomas in this house. Finally, I must capture the bright light from the sun illuminating itself onto the earth, and the metal object reflecting the light as well, right before a flash on bright light fills the screen as it fades out into white.
     For the sound in this opening, I will capture the sounds of the alarms blaring from the control center/ the area that it's being held in (probably from a electronically generated sound not a sound from the recording), and I will record the panic of the people inside the area as they configure with the pages of the binder, and switches on the control panel. I will also capture the audio from the Television in Thomas's house including the alarm/ alert from his phone. Along with inside the room that all the workers/ soldiers are in as well. I could possibly even get the audio of the jiggle or turn o the knob at Thomas's house next to the audio of the keys turning in the control panel. 
     I start off the film with an establishing shot of the hallway and the shadows running across the wall as the red alarm illuminates the scenery. Then, we cut to a boy laying in bed as we pan the camera up as he wakes up. We get a long shot of the room he is sleeping in, and then a close up shot on the alarm he has ringing to wake him up. We then cut to Thomas getting out of bed and we track him leaving the room, then we track him from his room door to the living room. Then we get a medium long shot of  Thomas sitting down on his chair and putting his phone down. We then cut to the TV as he grabs the remote and turns in on, then we zoom into the TV, then match cut into the big screen in the unknown facility with all the panicking people. We cut to a medium shot of a person saying dialogue, and someone joining into frame for a two person shot. We cut to a medium close shot of the binder being flipped through, then a medium shot of a person saying more dialogue. We then cut to a medium shot of Thomas, then a over the shoulder shot of Thomas looking at the TV as an alert is displayed, then we cut to a medium shot of Thomas looking at the alert from his phone, then cut to an over the shoulder shot of him looking at his phone as an alert is displayed again. We then cut to Thomas walking towards his door in a long shot, to a tracking shot to him about to open the door, then we cut to a close up shot of his hand grabbing the doorknob and opening the door, then we match cut to a person grabbing the control board, then a high angled shot to reveal two keys. Then we show a low angled shot from where the keys were to reveal the person who found the keys, then a medium shot of two people put the keys in and switch them to activate something. We cut back to Thomas walking outside tracking him from in front as he looks up high. We cut to the sky as something appears to be in view from the sun. We then cut to Thomas focusing on what he could see, then we cut back to the object in the sky being more in focus, then we cut to a medium close shot of Thomas' face as he realizes what he is looking at. We cut back to the facility room as it shakes and quakes, and we cut to a over the shoulder shot of a person looking at the screen , displaying a warning. We cut to a medium close of the mans face saying dialogue. Finally, we cut back to Thomas' environment and provide a long shot of him standing and the object high in the sky, then a beam is shot out of the object. Finally the whole screen fades to white.

If we were to distribute our film, it would have to be first in theaters before we release it to any streaming service. We would of course get a sales agent to work on our behalf, and it would be because of our precaution towards getting a distributor. The distributor may have many channels that we have to get through in order to contact them. They may also have hundreds of different emails for sales, acquisitions, bookings, etc. Though, the distributor I believe that we will have the sales agent get in touch with is FilmRise. FilmRise has over 50,000 licensed and originally produced films and TV shows across every genre in theaters and streaming services. They also have partnered with many big global names including Amazon, CNN, Hulu, Netflix, etc. They’ve also been experienced in distributing content in our genre as well. I also think that The Toronto International Film Festival would be a great choice to submit our film to. They’re known for displaying a wide range of films in every genre, which includes sci-fi, action, and disaster films. 
2. The title of our film is called Annihilation 91-104, and I do believe it does fir the genre and general mood of our film. It has to word that means complete destruction and death, along with a code that corresponds with a major part in the story. It also may attack audiences with a feeling of something being destroyed and a possible invasion, so that aspect alone can attract people. I believe though we could have changed the title to having no numbers as an alternative to make the title seem more dramatic, though since the numbers play a role in the film and it's important, I believe that it fits.

4. My target audience includes males of the age of 18-25. They will probably be a high school graduate, or they are in college. They will have an average annual income of 60k a year. They would have to have interests in the scientific, and into the unknown. Their hobbies wouldn't relatively matter since they would be people wanting to explore and understand all the things around them. They would be in school and probably having some low paying $15-20 an hour job. They would hang out on apps like Tik Tok and Instagram. They would probably follow people who enjoy/ take part in action movies, sci fi movies, and disaster movies. They probably play games like Halo and Call of Duty, and they most likely are renting some place.
5. I would reach my audiences by posting small trailers with cool effects and dramatic effects on Tik Tok, Snapchat story ads, Instagram, YouTube, Hulu, and Apple TV. I would put words like "get your tickets now" and "tickets are on sale now." For in person, I would display posters for my movie at movie theaters for "upcoming", I would work with some theaters and have them play it on the side walls on the virtual screen to play the trailer, I would collaborate with sodas like Coca Cola and Pepsi to have my film somewhat advertised on packaging and on the can themselves, and I would have it on magazines for people when they pass by and see it while in a shopping line at places like Walmart and Publix.
6. I could advertise promotions by having audiences download an app if they don't have the app already, which the app will have tons of movie promotions in it already, and have them click on our promotion so if they share our movie and help increase its popularity, they can get points in the app that'll unlock different promotional gifts and merch, and with the more points they get by more shares, the better prizes they get.
7. I would design my movie poster to be dark and grim with a space background, or at least have to sky above earth be shown in the poster. I could have the ship that will hurl towards earth either halfway into the poster or have it in the distance clouded by clouds or something else to show its hiding, and it was never expected, but now it's here. Also, the earth, whatever that be from an on-earth perspective or space perspective will have to be in the poster. I learned the cooperation it takes to create a film, and how everyone in the production process has an important role to play, and no one can be slacking what so ever. I learned how difficult some things may be to record or get for the film, and how we can work with the environment that was presented to us to make our best possible film. I learned how long some things can take to produce, even though we just made a 2 minute film, it still took some time to create. We had to modify the lengths of the clips and what they showed for our first cut, and then after we finished our film, we received feedback about how well we did. After the feedback, we we modified our film once again since our teacher gave our editor advice and recommendations including that some clips may feel dragged out or wonky, and that they can be shorter and more proficient. Also, that the camera lighting could be better from what we already edited to begin with, so we had to adjust that. We as the crew never noticed these changes could make such an impactful change to increase the quality of this film. In the end, we had to adjust lighting, lengths of clips again, and sound, all to overall improve and bring out the peak of our film. It was a long process for all of this, especially since we had to create and edit our own alien ship for our film since it would be impossible to get one in real life.
