What: They were sentenced to death after murdering a man and his guard. They were executed by electricity

When: On April 15, 1920, killed a man and his guard, the man was a paymaster, who was holding money, and they robbed him.

Where: Charles town state prison is where they were held, but they killed the man outside of Morrill shoe factory.

Why: They killed a man and his guard, and the man was carrying over 15,000 dollars. The U.S. does not want very many people to immigrate to America because they thought that it would make America watered down. They make a quota for what kinds and how many immigrants come into the U.S. The Italians and Polish are very hurt by this because nobody could get in. Except for Egland, European foreigners were considered all communists, and people were scared of them. There is never enough evidence to convict them of the crime, and they get trialed because they are Italian. This is an amazing example of the U.S. being afraid of immigrants and discriminating to the point that we executed two men who could not be proven guilty.

What: It was the first movie to have synchronized dialogue. 

When: It was released in 1927

Why: It begins the time of talking movies, and silent movies are completely killed. This also births better and better films.

What: He was the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic.

When: May 21, 1927, when he flew across the Atlantic

Where: he was born in Detroit in 1902 their family moved to Minnesota.

Why: It was a huge accomplishment and other pilots did not have enough fuel. He did the flight because he heard on TV that if anyone flew from New York to Paris they would give 25,000

What: He was the president during some of the roaring ’20s and the great depression.

When: Born august 10th 1924 and was elected March 4th, 1929

Where: Iowa, west ranch

Why: In WWI got a bunch of allies, and he led the rationing effort for the soldiers. They call homeless camps Hooverville because they blame him.

What: Was a car that was very cheap and accessible

When: it was introduced in December 1927 when another car was not doing well when 

Where: In Chicago, it was introduced in the ford construction site.

Why: It would completely change the would of driving.

When: The St.Valentine's day massacre was at 10:30 AM February 14, 1929. At the time, Moran’s men were going to hold a meeting for their newest hijacked supply of Canadian booze
Where: The shooting took place inside of the S.M.C. Cartage Company garage at 2122 North Clark Street on north side Chicago. The wall, covered in bullets and blood was drawn on to make the bullet holes more visible.

Why:Because of 18th amendment, the illegality of liquor and producing liquor, many major mobsters started making millions with the illegal business. Turf wars erupted everywhere, as some gangs tried to hijack other gangs shipments. The most prominent of these gangs was Al Capone’s south side gang, but he wanted all of chicago. He was challenged many times because of this desire and his biggest problem was George “Bugs” Moran’s north side gang. As a solution to this problem, Capone tried to kill of Moran himself, but got seven of his gang istead.

What: Tons of people get unemployed, and 

When: October 28, 1929, the stock market crashes.

Where: People in huge cities and wall street investors got impacted the most, but people in more rural places were less affected unless they spent a lot in the countryside for some reason.

Why: The stock market reached a huge high point because there was a lot of credit being used. The stock market continues to drop and everyone rushes to sell their stocks, but this caused the banks to close their doors, and this completely crushes the stock market.

What: The Memorial Day Massacre was a very violent event in U.S. labor history, some might even say the most. It was a shooting done by the Chicago police on protesting workers. The atrocity left 10 dead and nearly 100 wounded.

When: The Memorial Day Massacre happened Sunday, May 30, 1937. More protests followed the Massacre like the women picketing at City Hall, Chicago, on June 2, 1937.

Where: The Memorial Day Massacre was outside of a steel mill, The mill was operated by the company that the workers were striking against, and they had formed a picket line before the massacre started.

Why: The Workers who ended up dying where part of a strike. They were striking against the Republic Steel Corporation. It was also a part of the Little Steel Strike of 1937. The company tried to replace workers but ultimately deflated to violence. Sadly, the use of violence not only stopped the picketing but got the government involved, where the company won. The government also put stricter laws on striking.
