Dura mater- Protective layer made of connective tissue that keeps the brain and spinal cord

CSF- Absorbs shock, removes waste products, and delivers nutrients

Pia Mater- Made of a thin membrane that provides additional brain and spinal cord protection. Also contains CSF

Brain- Controls cognitive movements, thoughts, emotions, homeostasis, heart rate, and other functions.

• Heart - pumps blood throughout the whole body

• Lungs - responsible for gas exchange

• The rib cage helps to protect the vital organs inside the thoracic cavity

Abdomen (Abdomen) - breathing, digestion, movement, balance, and posture

Stomach (Gaster) - break down food and move it into small intestine

Liver (Hepar) - produces bile, processes nutrients, and regulating blood sugar

Gallbladder (Vesica biliaris) - stores and concentrates bile

Pancreas (Pancreas) - has hormonal and digestive functions

Small Intestine (Intestinum tenue) has three parts - duodenum, jejunum, ileum - breaks down food and absorbs nutrients

Large Intestine (Intestinum crissum) includes - cecum, colon, and the rectum - absorb water and nutrients from undigested food, and then form stool to be eliminated

Spleen (Lien) - filters blood, stores blood cells, and produces WBC and antibodies

Kidney (Renes) - filters waste from blood, balance electrolytes, and produces urine

Adrenal Glands (Glandulae suprarenales) - produces hormones that regulate bodily functions

Foramen magnum- Large opening in the skull that connects the brain and spinal cord

Spinal nerves- A communication pathway between the CNS and the body

Spinal cord- Transmits nerve signals between the brain and the rest of the body
