Hi, I really hope that all is well with you! I am going to start off by introducing myself and hopefully by the end the end of this presentation, not only have I captivated your attention but I provided a sense of remembrance of a special moment in your life that is just as special as it is in mine.

My name is Alicia McCluney, I am from High Point North Carolina, and I am currently studying within the field of psychology because among other passions, I have a deep passion for knowledge, studying the brain and everything that is in relation.

The time my family helped me see through another perspective at a point in my life when I felt at my lowest. I was diagnosed with a condition that highly impacted my life, my senior year of high school. Just when I was exploring several options to further my education, a lot of opportunities that I wanted to pursue closed right then and there. My first choice was to join the military. I was young and I wanted to travel, see the world, make money while attending school online to receive my degree and focus in entrepreneurship. It was a plan, just not the right one for me. While going through what I was going through, one thing my grandmother said to me was “ just because one door closes, doesn’t mean another or plenty more wont open.” And I absolutely stand by her and her words. She along with the rest of my family encouraged me to continue with my other passions and trust in God along the way.

Art.

Art is a form of expression, in my opinion. No matter how much effort put into one piece of artwork, it is accompanied with a variety of interpretations some of which that are similar and some different. It was shared for decades for others to learn, to understand that there are other perspectives or lenses to look through along with ones own.

I grew up with this passion. And I will live my life with it.

I had thoughts of creating an art business when I first stepped foot on A&T campus and then my plan changed, I realized that i wanted to pursue within the field of psychology. Art therapy is one of my two options.

What i intend to do with it, is to encourage, strengthen our community and let others know that they are not alone with what they are feeling. This goes out to whomever, every age range.

Art tells a story.

I truly appreciate this opportunity, it’s a great icebreaker, and a way to get a few stories out there! So I thank you!

I wanted to end this presentation with a few pictures i took of the world around me. Soon it will not be captured in the perimeters of North Carolina, hopefully all around the world. Nature is beautiful, it is something that deserves to be taken care of. It also tells a story.
