Despite the defeats in Egypt, Napoleon returned to a hero’s reception. By 1800 Napoleon had become the First Consul of France, and was now in a position of total power. He overthrew the French Democracy and its declaration of Natural law but introduced the "code civile des francais" (code Napoleon). It introduced new ideas like divorce, civile marriage, legal equality between the First Born and others children and between son and daughters, abolition of feudal ereditarity norms, legal value of the Will, and laws regarding adoptions.
This was inspired by illuminism equality values.

WW1
World War I, also known as the Great War, began in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. His murder catapulted into a war across Europe that lasted until 1918. Thanks to new military technologies and the horrors of trench warfare, World War I saw unprecedented levels of carnage and destruction. By the time the war was over and the Allied Powers claimed victory, more than 16 million people— soldiers and civilians alike—were dead. Something like that had never happened before .It was the first time that the atrocities of war (the rape of women, the destruction of cities, the killing of men in cold blood) were put before everyone's eyes thanks to the intense propaganda work which aimed at the degradation of the image of the enemy. Enemies were no longer seen as human beings but as mere targets to be taken down end the condition in the trench were orrible (the soldier could barely eat sleep and move arround).Human rights had never been so close to disappearing forever. Above all, the right that we now call the right to life had never been so close to being forgotten.

Human Rights: the universal declaration of human rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 (General Assembly resolution 217 A) as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected and it has been translated into over 500 languages. The UDHR is widely recognized as having inspired, and paved the way for, the adoption of more than seventy human rights treaties, applied today on a permanent basis at global and regional levels (all containing references to it in their preambles).
