The oldest was called Melur and the youngest was called Pekan. One day, Mak Tanjung caught a fish in a river and she was lucky because there were fish eggs inside.
“Melur, eat the fish with the rice with your brother. I’m going to clean the mess in the kitchen. Divide the fish eggs into three parts. One part for me, one part for you and one last part for your brother. Both of you eat first.” Melur obeyed her mother’s order and brought the dish to Pekan so they could eat. 
Halfway through eating, Pekan demanded more fish eggs. Melur gave him her part, yet Pekan was not satisfied. He threw tantrum, rolling on the wooden floor of their home, demanding more. Melur gave him Mak Tanjung’s part and only then he was satisfied.
When Mak Tanjung came back to eat the fish egg, she saw the plate was empty. She asked Melur about it but the daughter looked away guiltily. Mak Tanjung was truly disappointed by her children’s selfish deeds.
When night came, she ran to Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup and pleaded to the stone to eat her alive. Melur woke up in the middle of the night and followed her mother together with Pekan. Both of them saw their mother swallowed by the huge stone and cried in despair. They regretted eating their mother’s fish eggs portion.
