John comes to hear of Christianity and the Native American religion which both affect his morality. He bases what he thinks is right and wrong off of what he has learned from the Indians. For example, he thinks its right to sacrifice oneself for the better of society

Similar to the Indians on the reservation, John bases what he thinks is right and wrong off of what his mother has told him. He was taught different morals from the groups of people because the Indians are seen as savages while Linda was from the New World. He learned to read and he was taught the benefits of it. He has also learned from the mistakes of Linda, for example, he knows that not everyone belongs to everyone else. Also, Linda rarely acted like a mother to John because of how she grew up. So John did not have a close connection to family.

The book of Shakespeare's works was John's best way of practicing reading, something that the other savages did not do. John used Shakespeare as a source of emotion and thought. It became one of his sources of morality because he was able to express his feelings into words and actions. For example, his feeling of hatred towards Pope was finally put into context after John read Shakespeare's works. "Suddenly there were more words...The magic was on his side, the magic explained and gave orders." (Huxley 133)
So he was able to justify his actions through Shakespeare.
