1.I think bicycle checks such as the one shown in the picture are useful as it helps to reduce bicycle accidents that are caused by faulty bicycle parts. This is vital as students normally are ignorant and careless in checking their bicycle parts, thus having such an exercise will allow students to thoroughly check their bicycles. By doing so,it can potentially inculcate the habit of checking their bicycles properly, preventing accidents due to bicycle faults.Recently, there are multiple companies that provide bike-sharing services in Singapore, such as MoBike or Ofo bikes. By carrying out this kinds of bicycle checks in school to educate students on how to check the bicycle for faults, students who often use this kinds of bike sharing services are more likely not to choose faulty bicycles and getting themselves in accidents.I have personally witnessed such accidents happen, with one junior falling down and injuring his knee due to a broken seat on the bike. At that time,Ofo bikes were free for use and thus people were not as concerned over the condition of the bike, either abusing the bike or picking a faulty bike because the faulty bike is the only available one.Students who are not educated may just use the faulty bike without checking thoroughly and thus injuring themselves,as it seems usable.
2.Currently,most road accidents are caused by negligence of either or both parties involved in the accident. Thus, what we can do is raise awareness about the dangers of negligence.Such can be achieved by releasing advertisements, roadshows and pamphlets educating the general public on road safety awareness, from crossing roads safely to on-the-road driving etiquette. This would make citizens more informed over road safety dangers and thus hopefully reduce road accidents.Videos that shock and inform the public on road safety can also get people more concerned over road safety.Guidelines released by the Government for all drivers to follow can also help to make roads safer. We can also install more mirrors, speed cameras and other equipment to make roads safer. There is a new prototypical barrier currently in live testing called the rolling barrier system in South Korea that can prevent fatal accidents, and installing state-of-the-art technology to improve road safety is a good investment in improving road safety. However, this come with monetary and time costs, along with the false sense of security it can bring. In conclusion,These are not foolproof methods, and requires cooperation from everyone to improve road safety as a whole.
3.I agree that people that cause danger on the roads should receive severe punishment. However, this severe punishments should be for repeating offenders,as first-time offenders may either not be aware of such offences,be inexperienced drivers,or have circumstances that "forced" them into such offences. However, for drivers who repeatedly circumvent such rules, I do agree that we should have severe punishments as they are repeatedly endangering the lives of several road users with their irresponsible actions. This is actually being done, with the demerit point system warning first time offenders and resulting in license suspensions if you accumulate a certain amount of demerit points. For more serious cases of reckless and dangerous driving, the person can face a jail term and a fine, along with a suspension of a driving license. Thus ,I do agree with the position that people that cause danger on the roads should face severe punishments, with the advancements in technology creating a greater need for road safety awareness.

Q1. I think having bicycle checks is useful because it prevents accidents from happening. One example is that during the bike check, the bike mechanic can help check for faulty breaks. This prevents the rider from being unable to break and eventually getting into an accident if unfortunate. Thus bike checks are useful and they are a need for people who do not know how to check and fix their own bikes.

Q2. Roads can be made safer by putting up precautions and barriers to reduce damage. Precautions like signs and mirrors to alert drivers on incoming vehicles can give drivers some leeway to react thus preventing accidents from occuring. Barriers can also be put up in case an accident is to occur. An extraordinary invention that should be put up at expressway and roads with sharp turn is a plastic rolling road barrier invented by a few architects from South Korea. The rolling road barrier greatly reduces impact when a vehicle crashes against it as the barrier rolls hence it changes the momentum and slows the vehicle down.
[OTHER WAYS? What can pedestrians do? How about students? Focus on other perspectives instead of just the driver] http://www.drinkedriving.com/road-safety-park-singapore/

Q3. I agree that we should punish the people who cause danger on the road because if we don't stop them and give them warning, they will cause more danger. Therefore we should stop them in time and prevent them from causing more dangers on the road as it might be very dangerous for other road user. However I think that we should just give them warning and educate them about the consequences that might happen if they cause danger on the road.
