Ponyboy Curtis was that one kid who always tried at life and always tried to have fun. what I noticed about Ponyboy in chapter 11-12 is that even though he fights and argues with Darry he still doesn't want to loose him and doesn't was to leave his family. " I had to stay in bed a whole week after that. It bugged me, i'm not the kind that can lie around looking at the ceiling all the time" (S.E Hinton) Ponyboy likes to draw and study but he cannot stand that he can't be out with the gang and enjoying life and school. Ponyboy Curtis is one of my favorite characters in the book because he has such a good character and loves his people and never wants to give them up. he may complain and fight but in the end he will always be happy with who he lives with everyday of his life and he know that they will always have his back no matter what.

My Big Idea for Soda is that most people think that he is all perfect and he doesn't have any problems. In chapter 12, Darry and Pony realize that all of their fights have been affecting Soda. They also realize that Soda has been having troubles with remembering Sandy and all that has happened in the past few weeks. Pony learns some new things about Soda that he didn't know before and it kind of opens his eyes that Soda isn't perfect and has problems too. He realizes that Sandy didn't really love Soda   and she won't even read his letters. Darry tells Pony that Soda cried the whole week that he was gone. Soda had so much going on that things were getting hard for him. He lost two people he loved in only a few days. Soda seems perfect and this is about the first time that Pony and Darry had paid attention to Soda's problems because they had taken for granted that he didn't have any problems.
"He cried every night that week you were gone," Darry said slowly. "Both you and Sandy in the same week." He put the envelope down. "Come on, let's go after him." (Hinton 174,175)

Big Idea Statement #2: Dallas winston had courage but he let his past shape who he was. He became hard and tough because of his past. his past didn't totally break him but in the end he died broken. I wish that he would have chosen a different life for himself but he chose to be tough so no one could get to him. if he would of let his friends heal he aching heart thing would have ended differently. if he was in pain from the death of johnny he wouldn't have gone and gotten himself killed. Pain makes people do bad things. Dally did his actions through pain which cost him his life.

Then when you have Johhny and Dally die it is hard to think how the gang will do. Johnny is most likely the main part the gang is still together without Johnny the members would always be fighting. Big Idea #1: What you are labled isn't who you are. Choose your own story. I chose this big idea because Johnny was always refered to as a kicked around puppy, but Johnny wasn't going to settle for that. running in and saving those kids from the fire and in return he dies.

It the beginning he is played as a small character that was beat up once and that has changed him to be scared of his shadow. But as the book goes on you can see how much his role increases. It all starts with him at the movie theater, He hardly speaks in the beginning but later on he is thrust into a huge role when he kills Bob, then at the church when he saved the kids it shows that he cares for other people. His parents don't care but he cares about them. He cares about them when they don't even care for him.Then right before he dies he would rather see his friends then his mom. Big Idea #1: My first big idea for Dallas is, tough... But not too tough. He has always been a really tough guy and according to Pony not caring about anything. Hardened beyond repair. But he still cares, he isn't all tough and mean. He loves Johnny. That's why he risks his life to save him twice in the book. That's also why he breaks down and dies after Johnny's death. That's also why he helps them after Bob's murder.
Golden Line #1:
"Johnny," Dally said in a pleading high voice, "Johnny I ain't mad at you. I just don't want you to get hurt. You don't know what a few months in jail can do to you. Oh blast it Johnny"
Big Idea #2: Everyone has a breaking point. Everyone has a breaking point even tough hoodlums like Dallas. When Johnny died Dallas broke. One of the last thing's he cared about was gone, and he couldn't take it. So he ended his life.
Golden Line #2:
"Dammit, Johnny..." He begged, slamming one fist against the wall, hammering it to make it obey his will. "Oh dammit, Johnny, don't die, don't die, please don't die... He suddenly bolted through the door and down the hall.

I felt like Hinton was trying to get the readers attention with his heartfelt story along with while he was in the hospital Hinton brought in his mother which we hadn't heard of yet. I think life has its ups and downs, and nothing last forever. I feel like Jonny felt worthless, or just one of millions of people. I think he didn't fit in, and he didn't deserve to die. At least it showed some of the people that sometimes you have to sacrifice things, maybe even you life for better things. Jesus gave up his life and his innocence for us. When Johnny saved those kids, he did the right thing, but sometimes you have to pay the price for the things you do, even if they are not all bad.  Johnny dieing, and telling them he wanted to do more in his life, he didn't want to die made them want to do more in life, even if it is hard to get over what happened.
NOTE: I think Pony covers for Johnny killing Bob because he wants Johnny to die innocent. I think he doesn't want to feel like it was his fault Johnny died. I think he kind of feels this way.

My big idea for Dallas Winston is that he could be rough and tough or kind in different movement. Dallas was always the roughest member of the gang and always wanted to get into fights. He was always steeling things and getting into trouble with the police. When it came to Johnny Dallas could be kind. It seemed like he was a whole other person. He was always kind to Johnny and would never hurt him. It seemed as Dally was two different people.

When we first met Dallas in the book, he smoked, he was a drinker and it looked like he didn’t have a very good future. But on the inside he really cared about the people that were close to him. Beneath all of the things that people that he was, Dallas was a human being with feelings and emotions just like anyone else. Dallas died bravely, because in a way he was showing that he couldn't live without Jonny. The tramatic part is, that he never tried. Dallas was a sort of role model for Jonny, but Jonny knew the value of life, Dally didn't. Dallas lost the one thing he loved, the one thing he lived for. And then he lost himself.
Golden Line: Two friends of mine had died that night: one a hero, the other a hoodlum. But I remembered Dally pulling Jonny through the window of the burning church; Dally giving us his gun, although it could mean jail for him; Dally risking his life for us, trying to keep Johnny out of trouble (Hinton, 154).
