In a different environment with a different culture. yes it is horrible, for most women...but it is there culture and religion. I think most cases of arranged marriages work out and are fine. Yes, it is sad. But It is the tradition and culture it is normal for them. But then there are the cases like Mariam's which are horrible. Those are the only ones we ever hear about or see.
