         <title>Cyrus McCormick</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cyrus McCormick was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on February 15, 1809. McCormick died in Chicago, Illinois on May 13, 1884. He was the eldest son of a farmer, blacksmith, and inventor, Robert McCormick. In 1831 Cyrus tried his hand at building a reaper. When McCormick's reaper was tested on a neighbors farm in 1831, it provided hope that the yield of farmers would soon not be limited to the amount of labor available. McCormick took out a patent in 1834, but his main interest was the family's iron foundry. When the foundry failed in the wake of the bank panic of 1837, that left the family in debt, McCormick turned to his reaper an improved it.          <description><![CDATA[<div>John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont on February 7, 1804. Deere died in Moline, Illinois on May 17,1886. At age 17 Deere was an apprentice for a blacksmith. In 1837, he headed west and settled in Grand Detour, Illinois, where he set up his blacksmith shop. He joined a partnership with Major Leonard Andrus. Deere Had been experimenting because plows were not made for the sticky soil in the prairies. He and his partner sold 3 newly designed plows by 1838. He kept experimenting and produced 10 new plows in 1839 and 40 new plows in 1840.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Robert Fulton was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on November 14, 1765. Fulton Died in New York, New York on February 24, 1815. Fulton was the son of Irish Immigrants. At age 8 Fulton was sent to a Quaker school. He later became an apprentice for a Philadelphia jewelry shop. In 1786 Fulton went to Bath, Virginia to recover from a severe cough. When he returned to Philadelphia he focused on painting and was searching for a sponsor.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Andrew Carnegie was born on November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland. Carnegie Died on August 11, 1919 in Lenox, Massachusetts. At age 13, in 1848, Carnegie came to the United States with his family. Carnegie went to work in a factory, earning $1.20 a week. In 1853 Carnegie took a job at the Pennsylvania Railroad. While working at the railroad, Carnegie started to make investments, especially those in oil. He left the railroad in 1865 to focus on his other business interests.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Edwin Drake was born in Greenville, New York on March 29, 1819. He died in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1880. Drake was raised on farms in New York and Vermont. He worked at a hotel and dry goods clerk before becoming and agent for the Boston and Albany railroad. While living in Connecticut Drake met stockholders and they sent him to assess the viability of their enterprise. The stockholders sold Drake some stock and sent him to develop.
