Or would he, like most of the group, have kept his water to himself?” (Park 59) After finding the people on the brink of death in the desert, some people in the group offer water to them. Salva attempts to offer water too, but his uncle stops him, saying that he is too young. We believe that Salva would've given up some water if he was older then, seeing as he tried to do it now, when he is younger. Another point is that Salva considered this a horrible death, “He felt sick at the thought of those men - first dying in such a horrible way..." (Park 59) This leads us to believe that Salva would've done what he could to prevent the death that he considers horrible, seeing as he would've had the means to do so.

In the text it says, "In the moment before calling out to the woman a second time, Salva realized what Uncle had truly meant something Saliva had known in his heart for a long time," (Park 71). When Salva thought he spotted his mother only to find out that it wasn't, he realizes that his family is gone because of the war. The memories and experiences of his mother, father, and siblings gives him the strength to help him survive in the camp. He knows that they would've wanted him to survive and make it in the camp. In the text it states, "Now that Salva was without his Uncle's care and protection, the groups attitude towards him changed,"(Park, 65).   We think Salva will find a way to act more responsible or grown up, in order to change the group’s attitude towards him. Since, without Uncle Jewiir, Salva is now seen as a vulnerable, useless, child.

We believe that Salva’s uncle most likely wanted to fight in the war  to protect the innocent like Salva and possibly find the rest of his family.

Salva’s uncle most likely wanted to fight in the war to protect the innocent like Salva, protect villages that have not yet been raided,  and possibly find the rest of his family.
