Delegates from 12 colonies gathered (except Georgia) in what became known as the First Continental Congress. After debating the issues, the delegates passed a resolution backing Massachusetts in its struggle. They agreed to boycott all British goods and stop exporting goods to Britain until the I.A. were repealed. The delegates also encouraged each colony to set up and train its own militia (army of citizens who serve as soldiers during an emergency).
