When we were there, we saw him in a separate cell. We made the decision to play with him inside one of the play pens, and we ended up really liking him. My mom and I bought him without even notifying my dad because he was always opposed to the idea of having a second dog. When we got him, his name was Reagan, and we decided to keep it. The story behind his name is actually pretty funny because his name used to be Kennedy, like the president, but then he was sold. His new owners didn’t like the president so they named him Reagan, after the president as well. He’s been so amazing and I love every second I am with him. We have family there and decided to visit them. My moms sister and brother-in-law are there with my two cousins. We spent two weeks there, and I saw so many things. We went to a cabin and went snowboarding in a resort nearby. We went back to their house and visited libraries and museums. My cousin taught me how to ice skate and even play some hockey. The way I was raised and the society we are in today teaches us to rise above everyone else. I realized over the course of this year that a lot of my despair and sadness actually comes from not winning first in my athletic events. I would compete against hundreds of people and get sad over getting a silver medal instead of gold. People would congratulate me on my work and it would make me even more sad because I thought I did horrible. Losing just meant that I had to work harder and dedicate more time. As I started growing up, I realized that the small things matter the most. No matter how hard you work, someone will always be better than you, even if you devote your entire life. I don’t race to win against my competitors anymore. I race to win against my former self and see how much I have improved over time. I race against the clock, not the people. Our plan was to go during spring break which we did, but there were some problems along the trip. When we got there, my bag hadn’t arrived with the rest. As a matter of fact, none of our bags were even registered and only two arrived in Colorado. We ended up never finding the bag, and we’re currently trying to send them a claim. The trip definitely had many positives as well. We got to visit different towns and enjoy the snow for a change. I was really happy about that because I love the cold weather. We got to do some snowboarding as well, and the weather was perfect. I did it once in sixth grade, and I didn't do it seventh grade. I decided to do it this year and I think it was the best choice I have ever made. When I started the season I didn't really know anyone but once I got more comfortable, I became friends with such an amazing group of people. I loved going to practice to improve my performance and because I wanted to see my friends. I remember for my first track meet my coach put me for the 400 meters. I thought she was crazy for putting me in it because I thought it was too much for me, which it was. This first time I did really bad, but I was put in the 4x400 relay. We won first place in the event and I improved by a lot. I ended up loving the 400 meters and I'm so glad my coach saw my potential.
