I really like this resource because it simplifies the process a bit, and lays out the important pieces. As teachers in special education, I think it is always important to come back around and think about if what we are doing is a trauma informed practice, and recognizing trauma in all parts of the process. By collaborating with students in Person Centered Planning, we can recognize the trauma, and also work to decrease re-traumatization because it is centered on the students and families that we are working with. I find that to be a great way to connect how they are doing to where they want to go in the future. -Kevin

I realize that this is an article, but I found it to be considerably practitioner-friendly. I love the way that it provides five steps for encouraging more active participation in the person-centered planning process of parents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. While this text specifically looks at integrating MAPS with a Hawaiian process called Ohana Conferencing, the concept of merging American education values with another culture's educational values can certainly be generalized. During our activity this evening, we talked about how we often see different expectations and values between educators and parents around a child/student's education, especially from families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. I am intrigued by the practice of biculturalization and merging families' values with American education values. As a Filipina-American, a huge part of my self-determination as an adult has been constructing my identity as a Filipina-American. I love that this process can be a stepping stone for youth from diverse backgrounds to emphasize a hyphenated identity in their own self-determination.

https://northstarfacilitators.com/the-path-process/
This is a specific 8 step process for person centered planning. They work all the way back to what they can work on tomorrow or even right now.
(Sean)
