This is an excellent question and I think it depends on the city. I know Aberdeen has a City Growth plan with a greater focus on culture and tourism, but public sector workers are always needed. As oil and gas is in decline, engineering in the energy sector may be on the increase. I would advise you focus on your skills and passions to lead you to the career you want. It's good to have dreams, but get out there and volunteer or get a part time job and ask questions to find what suits you best.

My wife would have to change jobs and my children would have to change schools. This has its ups and downs. I have been fortunate enough to get a posting to Cyprus during my career which was great for family life. My daughter now attends a boarding school so that she has continuity in her education. The down side would be being away from our wider family and having to form new friendships and working relationships.

More technical jobs have higher entry standards. For example entry as an Avionics Technician would require NAT 5 in Maths, English and Science. Where as to join the Infantry there are no educational entry requirements. If you would like more information visit the ARMY website where it gives information on entry standards for each job role.

No day the same and always learning!
