Before the appearance of Sha Tau Kok Metro Station, the speed of infrastructure construction and economic development lagged behind the center of Shenzhen. Although Sha Tau Kok Port can go directly to Hong Kong International Airport Station and Hong Kong's Kowloon Tong Station, its utilization rate is much lower than that of Shenzhen Bay Port and Luohu Port in the city center.
 
At the end of October 2020, Metro Line 8 was opened in Yantian District, which boosted Yantian District's economic development. Yantian District had become livelier and more prosperous than ever since many businesses and real estate developers began to pour money into this small corner. However, subway construction, demolition and reconstruction of old houses, infrastructure renovation, and construction of new business districts have not stopped in this old district for a single moment in recent years, and residents' daily travel has been seriously affected.
