A German monk named Martin Luther had a goal to reform, and not break from the church. Martin didn't like the idea of indulgences that the Catholic church believed in so Martin wrote 95 arguments and posted it on the church door. The church didn't like what he said and they kicked him out. Martin ended up translating the bible to German so that everyone could get the chance to read it and he started his own protestant church so that people can learn the teachings of the church the way he thought was right.
