They gave the citizens hope for their lives. All believed that they would help them make it to the afterlife and that their lives would be mostly peaceful. They used linen and clothe to wrap the dead person. The reason for mummification was to allow the person to complete the journey to the afterlife. People were wrapped with the help of the priests and other Egyptians. After the wrapping, the priests would read out a spell from a scroll that is suppose to help them go to the afterlife. When they finished, the scroll would be placed between the persons arms and then their arms and legs would be wrapped together. It's main purpose was for the Egyptians could communicate with the gods. There were temples built for the god of each city. They were mainly built for the priests. One of the priests main job was to take of the gods and make sure they are happy and all of their needs were attended. The priest's other jobs were to do funerals for the dead to make it to the afterlife. The Egyptians believed that when you go to the afterlife, the Anubis god would weigh your soul to see if you have done any bad deeds. If your soul was heavier than a feather, then you would face punishment in the afterlife. They also believed that to protect the dead'd body in the afterlife, they would have to wrap the body and other procedures. Some other procedures was embalming the body and doing special rituals and spells.
