I had a teacher ask me this morning for an app or site she could use to make infographics. Do any of you have a favorite app for that?

I love Chatterpix! My third grade teachers were researching inventions last year and I wanted them to use the app to make the inventions come to life but they would not do it. I've offered to collaborate and co-teach. How do you get teachers on board for using these apps in the classrooms and integrating rather than just using them as stand alone activities in the library?

Check out the Easel.ly app/site for creating infographics. It's fairly easy to use, and looks really professional. Thanks for the QR code scavenger hunt idea! Hosting a book fair for summer school in a few weeks, and I'll definitely have students try this out! @CarrieJHogan

Loved the ideas for using QR codes as a scavenger hunt and for book fairs. I'll have to try these things when school starts back up in August. Our school system is investing in Chromebooks for this coming school year. I would like to find comparable apps and share them with our teachers and students.

Really like the idea of using QR codes in the library but haven't been able to do so because we haven't any ipads in the school. That is changing and I am so excited. I cant wait to use them in the library. It will open up a whole new world for my students.

Helping Teachers use Apps

Typically, after teachers see how engaged the students are with an activity like ChatterPix in the library, AND their students are already trained (by me) to use the app, they are more willing to try it in the classroom. We have to help teachers get over the old way of thinking, that the teacher has to know everything. It's OK to make mistakes or let the students teach you, especially when working with technology.

I know iPads are great...however, I got Nexus 7 Android tablets for a lot cheaper, and I love them! I don't even use the huge catalog desktops anymore...woohoo! Good apps are harder to find, so I made a Pinterest board of the apps I use in the library here. Most are free or very cheap.

@MrsJintheLib
