During this movie, Mr. Smith was appointed to be in the running to become senator, even though he didn't know much about the position. In order to keep him from getting this position, people made up lies about things he said and did so that he wouldn't get votes. These lies were spread all throughout newspapers, making the headlines for everyone to see. But, Mr Smith didn't stop fighting for the position. This just made him want it even more. When in front of a judge, Mr. Smith talked for hours and hours on end, defending and explaining why he should be senator. He did this until he passed out in front of his peers.
