What is Social Media? Social media only consists of two words and eleven letters with a huge number of users and viewers. Do you have any idea what social media is? Most of us are familiar, but not everyone knows or is familiar with it, knows how to use it properly, especially the young ones. Nowadays, young ones scroll here and there, and that is the only thing they do in their daily routine or daily lives. Instead of doing their household chores and their awaiting assignments or whatsoever, they are manipulated by social media. We can't deny the fact that social media is fun, yet dangerous. We can get information, but 50% of it is false.

According to the Dictionary definition, “Social Media is websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.” The way we communicate, connect, and learn has altered as a result of the widespread use of social media because it has become a more integral part of our daily lives as it develops. The importance and visibility of social media in today's culture is difficult to deny because in the modern world of technology, social media has really transformed. The youth are now actively involved in using social media to inform others about global concerns and injustices that take place. Young people can swiftly reach their audience and spread awareness in this way.

We might need to exercise caution in some situations involving social media and teenagers. Teenagers can benefit greatly from social media, though, as well. For young people, social media can and can be enjoyable. Teens may experience very significant benefits from it, such as enhanced communication abilities, more creative self-expression, and increased self-assurance. We should keep urging teens to use social media responsibly as long as we're not observing any negative effects.

Social media is greatly influenced by young people since they have made it a platform for teenagers to speak out against injustices by disseminating enlightening information. More particularly, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram have emerged as the most potent and successful platforms for spreading news and reaching more people quickly. Within the past year, teens have become more and more accustomed to using Facebook and TikTok, two social networking apps. As the years go by and the app gains more notoriety, it is evident from what we saw that Facebook and TikTok's popularity are continuing to soar. The app mixes producing entertaining and accessible material with serious and awareness-raising films. The use of these apps is seductive and addictive. Teenagers can now express themselves creatively on Facebook and TikTok while simultaneously teaching and enlightening one another about global challenges.

Overall, social networking does not have to be terrifying. Instilling basic digital manners and fostering an open discourse about online safety can go a long way in keeping youth safe online, despite the fact that it can be abused by bullies.

Social media is enjoyable. Social networking has a lot of advantages outside just being entertaining. However, when we misuse social media, it can have bad consequences. Social media's damaging impacts on young, susceptible minds have been widely discussed. Social media does have the potential to negatively impact teenagers, particularly in terms of how it may impact their self-esteem. Teenagers who use social media can harm from it in the following ways:

✖️Decreased time outdoors as a result of increased screen time, depriving youth of the mental health benefits of nature

✖️Less physical activity, meaning young people don’t receive the psychological boost provided by exercise.

✖️Increased social comparison among teens and young adults who measure themselves against peers and celebrities, and therefore judge themselves wanting.

✖️Poor body image as a consequence of social comparison

Possible addiction to social media, smartphones, and/or video gaming, because the brain responds to digital interaction in the same way it does to drugs.

✖️Greater likelihood of being exposed to cyberbullying and other distressing online social interactions with peers

✖️Lack of face-to-face interaction, leading to poor social skills and less satisfying real-life relationships

✖️Fewer hours of sleep due to social media and other tech use—important because sleep deprivation may cause or contribute to depressive symptoms.

✖️Can compromise safety

When communicating with others on social media, children should never provide any personal information. Make sure the youths' social media profiles are 'private' by setting them to that setting. Children run the risk of talking with persons who could harm them because of the ability for users to create phony profiles.

✖️Lack of focus

Children who should be concentrating on their education and other activities may become distracted by social media. It's crucial to make sure the youth have a healthy lifestyle and engage in social activities away from technology.

✖️Expectations

The images and messages we get from our friends and family about their success, accomplishments, and all the advantages they have drive many to utilize it as motivation, but many also feel uneasy or inferior to themselves.

✖️Consumptive Behavior

Unwise use of social media promotes consumption and waste. Whether or not we actually need them, we can quickly locate a variety of attractive products on social media that we wish to have. Even if we don't need them, we are tempted to purchase them.
