By that I would say that Basil was afraid of his own feelings towards Mr. Gray that he tried to be more difficult and two sided just to please other wishes. From this quote I understood that by being a two-sided person will not get you somewhere further than the place you are right now.

 

2.      ’’Being natural is simply a pose, and the most irritating pose I know’’

This quote has led us to understand how Lord Henry described how easy it is to be who you really are by not trying to always impress someone with something. On the other hand, I totally agree with this sentence, because as I mentioned before being natural an uninteresting or unfunny person is a normal thing, and no one should feel ashamed of it. The more we accept critic from other people the more we learn how the be better for ourselves.

 

3.      ‘The first is the appearance of a new medium for art, and the second is the appearance of a new personality for art also.’’

I think what Basil said was a good point of characterising art, but as I know that art is better when you are in your feelings with the work you do. In my opinion Basil wanted to say that art could so much more then just a piece of coloured paper. For basil it was a big work by the name Dorian. This quote led us finally to understand that by drawing Dorian, Basil tried to change to a better person and by that, I mean he also tried to change his personality.

With this quote we clearly can see how tired Mr. Gray was of all the basic art. He was tired of himself by that I mean Dorian was tired of always looking too good and making others feel like they should be a lower race then him. Of course, Dorian was obsessed with himself and by that, I mean his youth, but certainly he understood that he can’t do anything about it.

 

 

 

 

2.      “There is no such thing as a good influence”

As Henry mentioned that there is a bad and a good influence on people the same as in our world we live right now. Almost everyone had this  ‘’bad influence’’  from someone we never taught we could get it. But in a certain way the same was to Lord Henry, he tried to open up and be kind as also improve Basil. Meanwhile Basil didn’t want to change for a friend and always complained how bad it Is to be free person. As Henry said, ‘‘Because to influence a person is to give him one’s own soul. He does not think his natural thoughts or burn with his natural passions.’’ 

3.      “Courage has gone out of our race”

Perhaps we never really had it. The terror of society, which is the basis of morals, the terror of God, which is the 24 The Picture of Dorian Gray secret of religion,—these are the two things that govern us.

In Chapter 1 we clearly can see how scared Basil is of his own feelings. He tries to blame it all by saying that he can’t do anything to it no more, but in a reality, he is just scared to hurt himself.

 

“You don’t understand me, Harry. Of course, I am not like

him. I know that perfectly well. Indeed, I should be sorry

to look like him.” – This was the main reason why I taught that this chapter is full of insecurities. Yes of course we all have some insecurities that we don’t want to share or be known in publicity but as I mentioned before I noticed how Basil and Gray described themselves. Basil always tried to compare himself to Dorian by saying that he is not enough or as this quote say, - “….my brains, such as they are, —my fame, whatever it may be worth, Dorian Gray’s good looks, —we will all suffer for what the gods have given us, suffer terribly.”

I noticed how beauty standards from that time of period are like ours. For example, -” The ugly and the stupid have the best of it in this world.” If we look to this time of period, we live right now then we clearly could see that nothing changed by that I mean we still have a lot of people that may are not the smartest humans but, in some way, they manage to control our country or even our world

Furthermore, I love the way first chapter was like an intrigue to me. It started with a small detail that I wanted to know and ended in a confusion that continued in the chapter 2.

In a conclusion I would like to say that this chapter was interesting and full of moral things that are like nowadays.

In Chapter 2 we clearly can see how magnificent Lord Henry described the world, era they lived in. For example, ‘’The terror of society, which is the basis of morals, the terror of God, which is the 24 The Picture of Dorian Gray secret of religion, —these are the two things that govern us.’’

 

‘’You, Mr. Gray, you yourself, with your rose-red youth

and your rose-white boyhood, you have had passions that

have made you afraid, thoughts that have filled you with

terror, daydreams and sleeping dreams whose mere memory might stain your cheek with shame—’’ As Lord Henry described the hurtful words about Dorian. It was unfair, because he didn’t even know the truth how hard childhood was for Dorian. He stood there with his sad smile looking at Dorian while he was telling the truth.

 

 ’’My dear fellow, I am so sorry. When I am painting, I

can’t think of anything else.’’ In the second chapter we clearly could see the sparkling flames trough Dorian and Basil while he was painting.

 

Furthermore, we also could see the spark between Basil and Dorian while he was painting him, the murmuring, the tension that was created was unforgettable, But I noticed one more thing.

In a conclusion I would like to say that not only some love affairs were there but how scared Basil was to show his final work to Dorian, he was always scared of critic to him, but this was the final stage, because he had feelings. The way he tried to help Dorian was unbelievable.

This quote expresses both Wilde's and Lord Harry's opinion that defends faithlessness and dishonesty in favor of being a "colorful person". It adds to the theme of aesthetics over morals.

3.``Sybil has passed into the sphere of art.``

Again Dorian thinks of Sybil as a character, and in this way he copes and refuses to be hurt by her dramatic death.

Dorian's ultimate relief is ironic. Even as he feels joy at seeing James Vane dead, he is far from safe.
