"Multidimensional inequality and democracy of youth"

Among human rights issues, I heard about "multidimensional inequality and democracy of young people" related to young people. Article 2 (1) of the <Youth Basic Act> enacted in 2020 states, "The basic philosophy is to ensure young people's right to realize their dignity and values as human beings and live a happy life so that they can fulfill their responsibilities as healthy democratic citizens." Since the enactment of the Basic Act on Youth, the government has been conducting due diligence on youth employment, housing, and education. However, statistics and policies on youth are not effective enough. The reasons for this are the lack of jobs and worsening household income due to the low growth trend without jobs. It also leads to complex problems of structured social systems, such as wealth succession and asset inequality. In addition, these problems have become more serious recently due to COVID-19. To solve these inequalities, it is necessary to clearly define the multidimensional inequalities experienced by young people. Three years have passed since the Framework Act on Youth was implemented, but policies for young people are still controversial due to criticism that they are "populist policies" and interests in government agencies and the private sector.Secondly, it is necessary to clarify the structure of multidimensional inequality by region. Young people are in transition as adults, but it is difficult to enter the path again unless they enter the normal path of society required at a particular times.Third, we need to reinterpret the multidimensional inequality of young people from a democratic perspective. We should critically review the discourse that limits youth issues to economic and individual ability issues, expand from economic to democratic issues, and reinterpret the recent trend of fair discourse and meritocracy from the perspective of youth and democracy.

Youth problems were the most interesting, so I asked about youth-related problems, and I found out that the youth problem was more serious than I thought. Since I am also a young man, it was not someone else's business, and there were many things that I could relate to. Through this lecture, I think it was an opportunity to become more interested in youth issues.
