January 30th 1933, Hitler Appointed Chancellor

On January 30th 1933 the president of Germany Paul Von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler as his chancellor in an effort to use the Nazi parties popularity for his own parties advantage. Paul Von Hindenburg and his conservative party believed that Hitlers popularity could increase conservative voters for their party.

This is significant because Hitler's appointment of chancellor allowed him to seize political power without winning an election. Through this power Hitler was then able to remove democracy and turn Germany into an antisemitic police state which allowed widespread and normalized violent antisemitism

1096, The Rhineland Massacres

The Rhineland Massacres were a series of Jewish massacres in the years 1095 AD. These massacres were carried out by the hands of french and German Christians during the peoples crusades and took the lives of around 2000 Jewish people.

This event is significant because of the fact that the killings were unprovoked and simply a result of a hatred toward Jewish people. This hated stemming from the belief that the Jewish people crucified the Christian savior Jesus.

February 14 1439, The Strasbourg Massacres

During the Black Plague it was believed Jews were responsible for the plague through various conspiracy theories. This fear of Jews resulted in angry mobs gathering all the Jews in Strasbourg and the surrounding area and burning them alive.

This is once again a prevalent example of mass hatred and fear towards Jewish people resulting in their death and persecution. The Hatred and fear in this event stemmed from the theory of Jews being responsible for the black plague, which was a theory with no evidence to back it up.

1748, Expulsion of Jews from Prague

The Expulsion of around 10,000 from Prague took place at the hands of Empress of Austria Maria Theresa. Maria believed the Jews were disloyal to her, she originally intended to expel all Jews from Bohemia but upon economic considerations changed the area to only Prague.

The lack of resistance to this expulsion displays the general antisemitic view held by the public at the time. This expulsion also shows that throughout history antisemitic leaders have maintained power, and in turn used this power against the Jewish people.

October 1819, The Hep-Hep riots

The Hep-Hep riots took place in 1819 within the kingdom of Bavaria after antisemitic propaganda portraying the idea that Jews were attempting to take over the economy. The riots began with the intent of Jewish expulsion form the area and ended when the police were called in to quell the situation.

The Hep-Hep riots were a result of, once again, anti Jewish propaganda which claimed that Jews wanted to takeover the economy. These harmful lies about the Jewish people are present even today.

1934, German Head of State Referendum

17 days after the death of Germany's President Paul Von Hindenburg, in order to merge the positions of President and Chancellor. The vote ended in a "yes" to merge the positions which Hitler used to appoint himself president and dictator of Germany.

Hitler achieving sole power over Germany was detrimental for any Jews living in Germany as the government was now both antisemitic and totalitarian. This new merging of government positions left Jewish citizens completely helpless within Germany.

September 15 1935, Nuremberg Race Laws

The Nuremberg race laws banned Jewish and German intermarriage in an effort to keep German blood pure. These Laws also took away Jewish citizenship within in Germany and instead classified them as subjects of the state.

These laws were a rapid explosion of antisemitic policy that rather than just discriminating against Jews as was previously common instead took away their human rights. This removal of human rights within the effects of the Nuremberg laws is an excellent example of efforts by Germany's Nazi party to display Jews as non human.

July 15th 1937, Buchenwald Concentration Camps Open

In July of 1937 the Buchenwald concentration camp opens as a place where the German regime can send their political enemies. This camp is later opened up to anyone considered an enemy of Germany, which does include Jews.

The opening of the Buchenwald concentration camp displays the now physical removal of Jews from society. This removal of Jews from German society and the placement of these Jews in concentration camps will result in a catastrophic death toll of Jewish people.

November 9-10 1938, The Night of Broken Glass.

The night of broken glass was a state sponsored pogrom against Jewish people in Germany. This pogrom consisted of the destruction of Jews businesses, homes, possessions, and in some cases physical harm towards to Jews.

The night of the broken glass marks the beginning of the mass violent expulsion of Jews from German society to concentration camps. This antisemitic display of violence marks the end of Jews living in German society during the Nazi Regime.

October 15 1936, Reich Ministry bans Jews from Teaching Professions

October 15 1936 marks the day the Reich ministry banned Jewish people from the profession of teaching in Germany. This is on of many professions Jews were being slowly banned from practicing at the time.

This is significant because it displays a slow plan to remove Jews from German society by taking away their professions. This slow and extremely antisemitic process shows the Nazi desire to remove Jews from society altogether.
