-I really agree and connect with how she mentioned that you really need to spend some time with your students in order to know what skills work best for them in order to succeed 

-one on one work can make a world of difference in recognizing where your student is academically

-assessment is essentially a procedure for making inferences 

-there is no valid assessment there’s only valid and invalid interpretations 

-understanding the validity of my interpretation is one of the most important things you can do

-loved how he talked about how he initially made the inference that a student might be starting to struggle in math, when in reality the student struggles with reading which made reading the questions difficult. I definitely agree that you have to know what’s going on with your students in every aspect of academics to ensure a correct inference 

-teach to the test - I agree that it does connect and helps student understand instruction

-assessment is getting to know what the kids know and how the teacher is going to use that information : show what you know 

-exit tickets —> something to produce to show that the students were listening and that they understood the content 

-have the students work together—> can assess each other and then tell the teacher

⁃ I love how she does an exit ticket every single day. It really helps solidify that you know where your students understanding lies at all times pretty much

-As an elementary teacher you should always be assessing your students as soon as they walk through the door - how’re they feeling today? What can they handle academically right now? 

-make it a goal to have every kid grow in your classroom -> no matter where they started

  • Social skills, curriculum based assessment, and eager checklists are great forms of assessment 
  • FMP’s and running records are extremely helpful

  • I definitely agree that having patience with you students is important! Don’t get mad at them, and realize and understand how important it is to reiterate directions as they might not have understood the first time

  • Assessment is also a snapshot of a student and what they’re experiencing on that particular day 
  • If we look at an assessment as not an end all be all, but instead as a piece of information or as an estimation of something about a student that will be a better predictor for the success of the student
