Robots need laws to follow, if they were to be deprived of these guidelines then there is no telling how they would perform. The three laws are that robots may not harm humans, allow them to be harmed, and must follow the orders they are given, and with these laws it allows robots to be efficient companions, without worry of misbehavior. These laws are effective in keeping robots in check and not participating in unlawful or negative actions. At some point machines will have the necessary mental ability to evolve on there own and will no longer have a reason to obey and work for humans. There is always a possibility that even if this occurs Artificial Intelligence may not have the primal urge to inflict harm on humans and could further work with us together.
