The people are so ignorant, and easy to control that they don't question this at all.  History keeps changing, and yet not one of them admits it. The Party is always right, what they say is the truth, even if they have the knowledge and memories of the party being wrong. Their brains are wired in such a way that they are aware of the lies and still look over it and ignore what they knew before. Oceania is at constant "war", though there are no wins or loses, just war in a constant state. They make agreementa with one super-state and be in war with the other, and when time passes they go back to fighting their "ally", and lie about ever being in peace with them. Think of propaganda in the past the us has fed its citizens and compare.
• This quote is an example of what is going with government and their citizens. As we know all government wants is to control them so they rely on the past in order to do so. I think that if we look in the 
  past we can find stories we might like, and other we might not but if we don't then what can we do to make them better? or to change the end of it?. what government is doing is changing the stories in order for cityzens to believe in what they want, and that helps them to have a better control over them. BB does this , we know that Winston works changing storys and getting read of the parts of the stories that they don't want people to know of. The big problem that Oceania has is that people is ignorant so they wont ask, they wont try to know more... they just believe on what the rest say and in this case on what BB says. In a case when yo don't believe something propaganda is the best source to use. so government does that too not even just in this book but in real life. as an example I can give that presidents will offer things to people and thy will use the right words to make us believe on them so that at the end we will vote for them and we will follow them.But at the end not all presidents comply with what they have offered.

Oceania has always been in war, sometimes with Eastasia, others with Eurasia. In chapter 9, the government made a mistake: it announced for years that war was against Eurasia, but during the Hate Week announced war was against Eastasia (a supposed ally).Curiosly, these wars are endless although the three world powers that exist, already have everything they need: power, land, resources and most importantly, people's minds. 
If control over the people were to be lost, the nations would collapse. Thus the importance of worrying so much to keep a good picture of the government. Such mistakes as saying that Oceania is not at war with Eurasia and then suddenly saying it is at war with Easteasia bring consequences. In this case, as a result, Winston and his comrades had to work over 90 hours weekly to delete all unproper articles and rewrite stories. The government uses people to make lies and then, makes them believe their own stories and "fake facts." Propaganda can be useful, but whenever advertised, one better have a back up! I doubt a modern country could make people change their minds in a couple of days as Oceania did. But... if we pretend for a moment it could...would we be among those who would blindly accept the lies?
