He didn't listen to his aunt because he was still trying to find the ghost because he still had more questions to ask the ghost about how he died and more. In my opinion, I believe that the right choice for Josh would be to just listen to his aunt and worry about the ghost later. I believe that the ghost is not going to go anywhere so I don't see why Josh had to risk getting hurt just to find the ghost that would show up in front of Josh later in the day.
