Refusing the Nazi occupation, he joined in September 1941, the organization of resistance free France in London passing through Spain and Portugal to join Charles De Gaulle. In England he was a high-profile member of the Resistance in France during World War II. He is remembered today as an important symbol of the Resistance, owing mainly to his dangereous role in unifying the French resistance Under the command of Charles de Gaulle.
He died after being reported to the Guestapo and tortured.
Fortunately he did not reveal anything to the Germans which makes him a true hero who saved France.
