I’m from the Revenue Team. I previously served as a Team Lead for the Deposit Team from 2017 to 2023 before transitioning into a different role with new responsibilities. I'm truly grateful to be part of this workshop. I see it as an opportunity to strengthen my ability to collaborate across teams, better understand diverse working styles, and continue building confidence when engaging with people at all levels. One of my most meaningful experiences as a People Manager has been the role I played in training and guiding team members. I’ve always been committed to upholding high standards and supporting growth. Many of my colleagues have appreciated my detailed coaching style — some have even joked that I should be a university lecturer! It’s rewarding to know that my efforts have had a positive impact, and I look forward to continuing to support others in reaching their potential. Excited to learn and grow together with all of you!

Leadership is a journey, and for me, it began even before I held an official leadership title. One of the most memorable milestones in my early career occurred between 2015 and 2016, when I was still an Associate (GS) staff member. Despite my "junior" position at that time, I was entrusted with the responsibility of leading a team of eight temporary staff for a quarterly inventory review. This assignment was particularly unique and challenging, as it also involved collaboration with staff from the Malaysian federal government who joined the initiative with the intention to learn and observe our processes.

Managing a team with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, while ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the inventory review, proved to be a demanding task. The initial phase was hectic, with many moving parts and the added pressure of coordinating with external stakeholders. However, I was fortunate to receive unwavering support from my supervisor and colleagues in the New York office, whose guidance and encouragement played a significant role in helping me navigate through the challenges.

Through this experience, I learned the importance of clear communication, adaptability, and empathy — qualities that continue to shape my leadership style today. It also taught me that leadership isn’t defined by position, but by the ability to influence, support, and inspire those around you to achieve a common goal.

Looking ahead, I remain passionate about developing my capabilities as a leader and creating an environment where my team can thrive. I believe that effective leadership is about continuous improvement, collaboration, and a strong sense of purpose — values that I strive to uphold in my work.

Over the years working in GSSC, I've seen many strong, hardworking, and resilient managers. I hope to gain skills in this workshop that will help me become a better people manager and navigate challenges more effectively.

It’s been just two months in the role, and I’m excited to join this UNDP People Manager Role Readiness Workshop. I’m here to soak up all the wisdom, sharpen my leadership skills, and hopefully steal a few secrets from the seasoned supervisors in the room.

The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning" That is Leadership, there is no end, - Sheryl Sandberg said in : The ability to learn is the most important quality a leader can have"
