Did you notice any consistencies between the panelists answers?

It seemed as if on some questions there was an answer given, and then the others would base their answers off of that one answer. Maybe because they didn't really know or didn't want to sound out of place. There was quite a bit of agreement between them as questions got passed down. You could definitely tell that there was not much knowledge of the topics being discussed.

Do you think this was beneficial to you as an agriculture major?

Yes, because the consumer panel showed us that we need to advocate agriculture more. In all honesty, it is kind of aching when people are talking about things that families make their living on, doing what they love and were raised to do and then people talk bad and don't really know what they are talking about in a bad way about our lively hood.

What was the most shocking thing you learned or gained insight into?

It was shocking how oblivious individuals are to the Agriculture Industry and the hot topics that we discussed in the panel. And also the misleading information that is posted on social media today is really not okay.  From what it sounded like to us, that stuff really does sway some peoples opinion. Just makes me as a farm raised kid want to change the way agriculture is advocated.

Based on their insight, what changes can we make on ISU’s campus to help those misconceptions that are present at ISU?

We could provide a once a month panel to inform and answer questions for those who are seeking more information about agricultural misconceptions. Also we could make a newsletter or something of the sort to send and/or hand out out to students.
