More PH or hydrogen ions then hydroxide ions creates acidic water both bad for humans and the species within the waters. With knowledge of our rivers health we have the proper skills to take action and protect our aquatic organisms.

We are running a pH test. To run this test we will be using a pHep a pH electronic meter. We will examine the condition of the pHep after we remove the cap and soak the sensor for at least a half an hour.

We look at more than one site so we can get an average of the river. Water quality could be different at all 3 sites so if you take just one sample at one site, it won't be correct. There are tributaries going into the river that could be affecting the quality so if we take samples at 3 different sites. We can tell if those tributaries are affecting it.

With out tests we can prove the range or kinds of aquatic species tolerant to the levels found. By preforming a soil sample we can see if any outside pollution is affecting our water quality. By knowing this we can provide protection both the local citizens and the aquatic species.
 
Healthy pH readings in our water shed average 8.2 anything differing by .1 of that level is good as well just not as healthy. We will take soil samples by the river to make sure the water quality isn't being poll
