Pennies? What are they? We all know that penny is a small unit of the currency, and they usually stay at the bottom of our wallet. So people might ask: should we still use coins? In my point of view, we should still use and mint pennies for several reasons.
First of all, a penny is not just a penny, but a part of our history and culture. According to The Ever-Changing Penny article by Maria story, the first penny of the US was minted in 1857. As time moves on, the pennies also changes. The penny we have today shows the world a long time ago, which is an important evidence of the human society and what it was like in the past.
More importantly, the end of penny using will cause inflation, or causing prices to increase. For example, say something that had a regular price of $3.36, however if we stop minting penny, what will happen is that the $3.36 becomes $3.40. It's common sense the sellers won't make the price lower but make it higher if the pennies are gone. As a result, people will end up losing thousands of dollars if we stop using pennies.
On the other hand, a penny takes almost two times of its own value to produce one. This means that our country took millions of dollars on pennies half it value, which some people think we should eliminate minting of pennies. However, it still worth to use money on minting pennies. Even though millions of dollars on pennies are a lot, but if the pennies are gone, the inflation afterwards are far more than several million dollars.
In conclusion, we still should mint and use pennies. Pennies have a major row in our history and society, so, don't let them always stay at the bottom of your wallet.
