Two aspects from the Linsin reading that I can apply in my future classroom are, smiling and a little fun. Like Linsin stated, smiling makes people like you more, and I want my students to really like me. If my students like and respect me they will be more willing to listen and follow along in class. Smiling will make my students happy, and make my classroom more welcoming and inviting for all. Next, I can have a little fun in my class in order to create a positive and safe space for all students. Fun in the classroom makes school more enjoyable for me and for all of my students. Fun also allows for students to build stronger social connections with their peers and to get to know me better as well. He has had many great tips on classroom management in his book so far!
-Chandler

According to the Linsin reading two aspects that I can apply in my future classroom set rules, and do not act like a mean person. Like Linsin stated the four important rules is 1.) Listen and follow directions. 2.) Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat. 3.) Keep your hands and feet to yourself. 4.) Respect your classmate and your teacher. By setting rules in my classroom it will be better for my students because they will follow directions. Also, setting up rules would set a classroom norm that they will remember every time they come to class. Another aspect, is to do not act like a mean person. By this said, is if they did not follow the end of the day procedure well hopefully the next day you will tell them to do it but in a good way. In my future classroom I would always try to smile as Linsin said, it makes you more that your students make like you, and set a precise tone. As, reading this book Linsin has good ways to and effective classroom management and well behaved classroom.
- Adriana Davila

Two aspects that I learned while reading the Classroom Management Secret from Linsin are, smiling, and having a routine. I believe that these are very important to always start the day off with a smile. By smiling it tells the students that you are happy, in a good mood, welcoming, and that you like them. This small little gesture makes a very big differences especially when first getting to know your students. It can build trusting relationships. The other aspects that I believe is important is to create a routine from the get go. This also helps with classroom management early on in the school year. By starting the first day even of school with a routine by the second week they will know how to properly enter your classroom, what is expected of them with their behaviors, and how to go about daily things in your classroom. It is important however to make sure that the routine I set in place is positive, and I demonstrate the routine to them in a positive and engaging way. I learned a lot from reading this section of his book and will continue to keep this book for future use of good classroom management skills and tips!
-Sophie Metee

The Linsin reading taught me the value and impact that you can have by being kind. This is one thing that I want to apply to my future classroom, I will do so by smiling and building trust with my students, ultimately creating an environment in which everyone can feel safe and comfortable. Another habit that I want to adopt is having a plan and a routine, I think both go hand in hand when it comes to running a successful classroom. A plan leaves little to no room for students to be confused in terms of what is allowed and what is not. A clear set of rules comes a long way throughout the school year. Lastly a routine sets students up for success, having high expectations and demonstrating what those are is essential. Doing this at the beginning of the school year is important so that later students will participate and follow the routine with ease. The best thing about these aspects is that they can be done while still having fun.
Camila Kelly

The first aspect I learned in the reading, “The. Classroom Management Secret” by Michael Linsin was that the instructor should create a loving environment where the students love being part of (p.8). If they enjoy attending, love the way the teacher teaches, love the enthusiasm, positivity the instructor brings; they will happily attend class and be more open about learning. The children should feel cared for, I as a teacher would motivate them, believe in every one of them, so they as children would have more hope in themselves. Also, I would smile to my class, the class should feel that you’re kind, approachable and they will follow along and smile as well. They by smiling are demonstrating happiness, happiness in a learning environment is amazing to have. It’s amazing that the students get along and learn together. (p.9) Smiling at my students gives them and their parents a good first impression of me, lets them know I like children. Smiling especially on the first day of class makes them feel welcomed. Shy students get very nervous about going to class and seeing new individuals, so observing a smiling instructor is more likely to aid them in feeling more comfortable. (p. 10) There are a ton more tips I could use and apply to my future elementary classroom, I would be excited to have them and one day learn from each other.

-MM
Marisela Mungia

The two aspects from the Linsin reading that I can apply to my future elementary classroom is building a routine with the students and creating a loving environment. It is important to establish a routine with the students because it gives students a sense of security and stability. Students need a routine because it can help with keeping their behavior in control. Also, it is beneficial for the teacher because it can help us feel more in control of the situation. I think creating a loving environment is beneficial because it sets the mood of the classroom. If a teacher walks into the classroom in a bad mood, the students will sense it and feel the same way. Therefore, it is important for teachers to walk in with a positive attitude and happy face so that the students feel enjoyment in the classroom. Also, teachers are looked up to as role models so we have to remember to set good examples to our students so that they can return back to their family and friends. It will make the students want to come to class to learn. Overall, I think these are important aspects to have in my future classroom.
-Verna Hiedo

I think one of the first aspects of classroom management would be keeping a positive mood. People seem to underestimate that your mood can affect your surroundings by a lot. Not smiling, keeping a grumpy face and attitude, and slamming things around or simply not being enthusiastic can affect the teaching quality of your classroom. Children need a positive role model to look up to. They need a scholar who can not only guide them through school, but also keep a positive mind about school as well. Another aspect I liked from Linsin's reading is to have a plan. You see, being a teacher is not an easy task. This is why it's imperative that you are always one step ahead and ready to do what you need to do. Personally, I would always plan out my lessons, interactions, and make sure on that same day that I don't have anything to remove my positive attitude and that can make your day a lot easier for both yourself and your students.

Christian Monge

It is important for a teacher to make a good impression to their students especially in the first days' of class. Two aspects that I can apply to my classroom are smiling and teach routines that take place everyday in a positive manner. Smiling in your class is important because it shows that kindness and a positive environment are a standard in the classroom. Some say that smiling can be seen as a weakness to your students but I ultimately believe that students should be able to see a kind teacher excited to work with them. Linsin also discusses how teachers are to properly instruct routines to students in order to make transitions smooth and quick. Teachers should demonstrate what to do first and then show what not to do. After, a student can demonstrate the routine, then a group, and then the whole class. Its a good way to show the students how to do a routine while keeping the students engaged and active. These are two aspects I learned from Linsin that I plan to apply to my classroom.
-Christian Contreras

I think a lot of us get caught up in what we are doing or teaching that we forget to smile, so that is something I want to start working on now, so when I get to my classroom it comes to me naturally. Another aspect I want to apply is setting a routine and expectations while also having fun. I think it is important for the students to know you mean business but also love to have fun.
-Brooke Holland

The two aspects from the Linsin reading that I can apply to my future elementary classroom would be to set a positive learning environment for my students. I would be able to do this by always coming into the classroom with a positive mindset and a smile on my face. I also think it is important to maintain good body language because students are very observant. In past experiences, I have noticed when a teacher is giving off a bad reaction to something or being negative, it severely affects the classroom as a whole. Children need to be in a happy and positive learning environment that they love to go to in order to succeed in the classroom. Another aspect that I agreed with from the reading was to maintain a solid routine with the classroom. This is extremely important for classroom management and to keep the students on the right track. I know from myself when school or work is not in session, I feel lost and out the loop because I would not have a solid routine. I also think it is important to set the guidelines from the beginning of school. For example, like we do in class, creating a contract for the rules of the classroom and know the expectations. In my EFE classroom, the students do the same routine everyday and I have seen it proven to be beneficial in the classroom. I think both of these aspects that I found important from the reading is key to managing a successful and fun classroom.
-Deena Elwi

The two aspects from the Linsin reading that I can apply to my future my classroom is smile and have a routine. I want to apply smiling to my classroom because no one knows what kind of morning the students are having, but if I smile at them right when they walk through the door they will have a change of mindset on what kind of day they are going to have. Linsin also mentions how smiling creates a likability and thats what i want from my students (Pg 13). I want them to like me so they can be excited to come and learn in my class. I also want to apply having a routine in the morning. Linsin states, "Teach a highly detailed lesson how to enter your classroom in the morning..." (Pg 14). I will do this by having morning circle before we start class. I've seen many different ways how teachers use morning circle. One in particular stood out to me, and it was that they would say, "good morning ________ (name)". It would start off with the teacher and then go either left or right. Then the student would reply and then look to her/his opposite side and greet their classmate. I like this because you don't know if they heard good morning that morning, and if they didn't that can change their mood. All the aspects mentioned by Linsin are very helpful to know, but those two stood out to me.

-J.B
Jazzlene Beltran

One aspect I would apply that Linsin talks about is storytelling. I agree with Linsin that being able to share personal stories of my life to my students would create something special. I have shared many anecdotes of my life with students I have worked with and that helps them open up to me or I figure out we have something in common. By doing this I allow them to see me beyond my professional self. Another aspect I would apply is having fun. Students should want to be excited about coming into my classroom and I believe this is one way for that to happen. Furthermore, Linsin states, “The idea is to establish a classroom environment that balances hard work with camaraderie, friendship, and joy.” By doing this I feel that my classroom will have a great balance between school work and fun.

-Jenny Sandoval

Two aspects from the Linsin reading that I can apply to my future class would be, to begin every day as a new start and to maintain a routine. It is extremely important to begin everyday as a fresh start because a student may have had a bad day and that should not define them or have judgments made towards them. I like how Linsin mentions, " when the students arrive for school the next day, lessons have been learned, no grudges are held, and everyone starts fresh--with another chance to succeed, to grow, to be better than the day before" (Linsin 25). I really like this aspect because everyone deserves a chance to better themselves and to grow. Maintaining a routine is also extremely important because it sets standards for the entire semester. A routine keeps everything organized and never leaves a student confused on what they should be doing at certain times during the day. A routine is also important for students who have ADHD or other learning disabilities. Maintaining a routine is definitely an important aspect for any classroom as well as beginning each day as a new start. These are aspects that I will carry into my classroom.
-Frankie L.

I know that as an elementary student, I really appreciated the teacher having a routine that we would follow everyday. That way, I would know what to expect everyday and not have any unexpected surprises. Having the daily schedule written on the board will help students know what to expect throughout the day. I also know that having a positive environment in my classroom will help students feel welcomed and excited to come to class everyday. The teacher sets the mood for the day, therefore I will do my best to make my future students feel great.

Victoria Lopez

I would not want to be perceived as the strict and scary teacher to students so having a peaceful pace and a little fun in the classroom would be a priority to me. Having a peaceful pace is significant because if the students see the teacher as stressed and hectic all the time, they would too be stressed and hectic. Having a little fun in the classroom would have the students look forward to and enjoy going to my class everyday. Also, no one wants a teacher that can to crack a joke. Starting off with a nice fresh start to the day and keeping with a routine will help my students understand my expectations from day to day, as long as I am consistent with what I say to them regarding the routine and expectations. That sets them up for success in my classroom at the start of each day. I think another aspect from the Linsin reading I could use is the storytelling. Using personal stories about myself to share with my students could help them relate to me and bring us closer together. I think it's good to make myself seem as approachable as possible to them, and helping them get to know me is a great way to do that and make them more comfortable in my classroom.

Katie Betts

Two aspects from the reading that I can apply to my future classroom are to smile to my students and telling stories to them. Some people say that we need to be careful with the way we treat our students, especially during the first days of school. Linsin states that smiling to the children is a good thing. I agree with him because I still remember how nice and warm my third-grade teacher was. I used to get anxious when it was my turn to participate in class. Every change of topic (2-3 pages in our book), a student had to stand up and summarize the reading before we read it together as a class. This teacher will always help me feel a little bit more confident about speaking up and would check on me after that. She would glance at me with a smile. I also liked the idea of telling short stories to my students. They will feel engaged and connected with me in some levels that other teachers could never approach. Furthermore, telling stories is a great way to allow students to have a break from school subjects and daily routines just for few minutes.

The Classroom Management Secret by Michael Linsin features a number of classroom management strategies that are useful in the classroom when implemented correctly. Linsin suggests several different classroom management strategies that could be implemented in the classroom. In my future classroom, two aspects I could utilize for classroom management are daily routines and creating a loving environment. It is apparent how daily routines are beneficial in the classroom, particularly with student management. Routines give students clear guidelines and structure to be successful in the classroom. In my future classroom I hope to create a loving environment for all my students. As Linsin recommends, I will create a loving environment for my students by being positive and smiling at my students.

~Kat Kantner

The first aspect I plan on applying to my future elementary classroom is routine. I think it’s important to start the school day with positive energy and communicating this to my students will be a daily ritual. However, a good start must also end with a good finish. Ending the school day with a message that will motivate my students for tomorrow will be a routine that helps them strive for greatness. The second aspect I look forward to bringing in the classroom is fun. When students are able to learn while having fun at the same time, it makes teaching a whole lot easier. Being able to have a sense of humor with my students will also establish a classroom environment that balances hard work with joy. It’s important that the fun teachers outnumber the boring teachers!

-MO

From the Linsin reading, I thought the "Smile on the first day of school" rule was important. I have had teachers who never smiled, and I always dreaded being their student. Smiling establishes positive connection, and teachers have to create a classroom that students love to be a part of for them to learn properly. The routine aspect of the reading was also very important. This gives the students know your expectations for a more streamlined classroom management style. Because all of the students know these expectations, they can also help keep each other in check. The stability will also let students absorb information better, because different expectations everyday can confuse and make students uncomfortable.

-Zoey Jones

Management techniques

For me, I think that the most important technique that Linsin talks about in the reading is reliability. It's important to always enforce the expectations that are set in class, even if when students break those expectations it is done in innocence. This is something that I can see myself struggling with as a teacher, because I struggle with enforcing my boundaries even with friends. I never want to step on anyones toes. But it's important as a teacher for students to know that you mean what you say, and I agree with Linsin that respect is necessarily for healthy classroom management. Another aspect of the reading that resonated with me is when he talked about the importance of "having a little fun" in classroom. I worry sometimes that it might be difficult to balance classroom management and making my classroom a fun place where students feel comfortable expressing themselves while also working hard and learning. This is something that I look forward to learning more about and putting into practice in my own classroom.
-H.B

After reading what Linsin had to say, I will definitely be using routine and smiling in my classroom. The plan is to teach kindergarteners, and after volunteering in a kinder/first grade class I think it would be important to start them out with routines from day one. This could be routine of how to enter the classroom in the morning, how to behave in the classroom, and how to have a morning circle with each other. The second is smiling! Being a student myself, I can’t tell you how grateful I am when my teachers smile at me. I could be nervous about a test, or just don’t know the answer to the question my teacher has asked. There smiles have made me comfortable and safe. I hope to be able to pass the same feeling on. I also believe that smiling is contagious, and it sometimes comes with laughter. All positive things that should always be required in the classroom.
TS

I would tell them clearly and show them what I mean, including a visual and en-active demonstration so that they know what a successful class looks like.
Another, is disciplining them appropriately in order to gain there respect. Linsin states that " You never decide when to enforce discipline, your student does."-

Linsin also mentions that having a successful class management plan builds credibility with students and it's an important way to gain leverage for positive relationships with them.
My future classroom will feel free and at ease when they know they are in an environment that is well managed and they will also support my desire for an environment that is free from rudeness, disruption, and disrespect.
A.G.

The loving environment would feel like a safe place that students enjoy coming to daily. In elementary school I loved going to school when my classroom environment was fun and loving and when I knew my teacher enjoyed being there. However even as children you can feel when the environment is not loving, and you don’t want to be in a classroom that feels that way. Also I want to start the day off with a smile. If you have a warm welcome your students will begin to feel comfortable. Once they are comfortable they open up to speak in front of their classmates and myself.

NS

Students will have a better understanding about what to expect in their schooldays and to come prepared. I also would want to put the schedule up on the board so that students and other staff can see what subjects we will be covering and when.
Another aspect I will implement into my future classroom is a loving environment. That has always been one of my biggest priorities and remains this way. It is important for students to feel welcomed and accepted in my classroom so I want to provide that for the students.

-SDC

Two aspects from the Linsin reading that really resonated with me are storytelling and a peaceful space. Storytelling allows students to be more intrigued in the teachers lessons, and allow those lessons to truly resonate with the students. Having my classroom be a peaceful space, can allow for the class to consistently be a place where learning can take place. With this, students can feel comfortable I will not leave them behind if they do not understand, and allow the students to understand what is expected of them.
M.P.

One rule I found interesting was to smile on the first day of school. I contemplated this rule deeper than the others because the first piece of advice my grandma gave me when I told her I wanted to be an elementary school teacher like her and my mom, was “don't let the student see you smile until thanksgiving”. The idea behind this is, they are supposed to fear you just a little bit so that they will behave well and show respect. But personally I like smiling and feel like it calms students nerves and makes them feel safe and comfortable coming to school. The second rule I will be following is setting and maintaining a routine. Having a set routine is the easiest and most productive way to manage classroom behavior and allows the school day to run as smoothly as possible. For these reasons, when I have my own classroom I will be smiling everyday, and putting in the effort to establish and maintain my school day routine.

-Rachel McArdle
