1820, Missouri Compromise

I chose this event due to the significance towards the Social and Political factors of the United States. In regards to the "Social" aspect, the Compromise split the United States into the North, which plead against slavery, and the South, who were avidly in support of slavery. When considering the political factor of the Compromise, the compromise caused a lot of debates due to the potential unbalance that could be created by admitting Missouri as a slave state. In response to this, Maine was admitted as a free state to keep the political balance between the states, and they even set the 36°30 to set, what was supposed to be, a "boundary". This event also was a significant mark towards the Civil War, as it divided the nation into those who supported the Union, and those who were confederates.

October 16th 1859, John Brown Raid

I chose this event due to the fact that it pertained to the Social factor of SPRITE in many ways. One of these main ways was the fact that the raid further split the North and South on regards of slavery, even spreading fear upon southerners. In regards to this, the enslaved people further spread this fear due to Brown's primary goal of weaponizing the slaves, and giving them a large role in the rebellion. Politically, Brown's raid further split the nation with each sides beliefs upon slavery, therefore helping push the nation towards the Civil War.

March 6th 1857, Dred Scott Decision

Politically, the Dred Scott Decision caused a lot of clamor in court, and it is still deemed one of the most unfair decisions in court. Along with this, it also continued to spread slavery, playing into the social aspect of African Americans not being regarded as citizens. This caused tensions between whites and blacks, as it essentially sent colored people back into slavery, getting rid of everything once created. This was also a significant start to the Civil war, as Southerners beliefs were taking over, causing spite upon the Northerners

1849 & 1861, the Minie Ball & Gatling Gun

From these two inventions, they were both creations that appealed to the technological factor of SPRITE. I chose the Mini Ball & Gatling gun, as they both had a significant impact upon the outcome of the Civil War. When put together, they both significantly increased the death toll during the war, specifically focusing on the Minie Ball. The Mini Ball was a bullet hand-crafted for death, and it was able to take the lives of many from just one shot. When put alongside the Gatling Gun, or rapid release/machine gun, these technological advances played a large role on the outcome of the civil war.

July 1st-3rd of 1863, Union Victory at Gettysburg

From the Battle of Gettysburg, a significant turning point for the Union was created. This event appealed to the political factor of SPRITE primarily, as it was significant for the outcome of the Civil War. The reason for this is because it was the final large invasion of the North that was planned by confederates, but its failure was shown to have sent Lee back to the South due to failure on behalf of the confederates. Also in regards to the political aspect of this event, many casualties occurred on behalf of the confederates, causing the morale and hopes of the Union to heighten.

1860, Lincoln's Election

I chose this event due to its significance in appealing to the political factor of SPRITE. Politically, Lincoln's values as a republic regarded preventing the spread of slavery. Due to these beliefs he held, southern states were worried their institution of slavery would be threatened, which would concern their economical status. Socially, America was also being split upon the beliefs on slavery, and the potential lives of the new freedmen. This caused a major outcome in the civil war, as fear being withheld by Southern states caused them to revolt.

1865 & 1870, Black Codes & Jim Crow Laws

I chose this event due to the significance it held socially with African Americans. After the Civil War and Lincoln's death, racist people attempted to push the freedmen as far back to slavery as possible, which is why they came up with these "codes" and "laws". The goal from this was to rid freedmen of every right they gained along the way, as racist caucasian's were jealous of seeing the newly freed individuals in power. They did not want their senate to be comprised of people of color, and they also did not want to be associated with such people. This essentially led to segregation between the two races.

December 24 1865, Ku Klux Klan

I chose this event due to the significance it held over America it held after the Civil War, specifically socially and politically, as it further divided black people from society. They, the KKK, would go about cities terrifying those of color, saying they are the "ghost of the ex-confederates", which would get their desired amount of fear out of the victims. This fear among black communities caused lower amounts of black votes being casted, therefore leading to a full white Congress. Along with this, the intimidation struck by the KKK caused all positive aspects of reconstruction to fail.

1865, 1868, & 1870. Ratification of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.

I chose this event due to the significance it held politically. These events allowed freedmen to be admitted as U.S. Citizens, as those born in the U.S. were now regarded citizens. Along with this amazing attribute, there was no longer that could take away their privellege to vote, specifically skin color and race, which was a huge problem in the past. These two major contributions to America, along with the abolishment of slavery, freedmen were now able to consider themself as equal as the person next to them.

March 3 1865, Freedmen's Bureau

I chose this event due to its positive significance it held for the newly freedmen in the U.S. This event was major in regards to the social and intillectual aspect of SPRITE significance, as it caused many new schools and universities to be established for the freedmen, primarily to further expand their education. Many people freed after slavery were illiterate, or did not have the privilege of education, so the Freedmen's Bureau helped with this problem. Along with this, the social lives of freedmen, specifically black individuals, were now able to thrive. Freedmen were now given medical attention, clothing, which was a necessity, and land. Families once torn apart were granted the opportunity to reunite.
