I am in the field of early childhood education because I am so curious about not only my own upbringing but my siblings as well. I am curious what variables go into making us the way that we are in terms of behavior, even physical characteristics. I am more interested in the special needs aspect overall and understanding those who aren't able to articulate themselves and why. I am big on perspective.

There's a part that stood out to me the most in this ted talk. Verna says "stop trying to be good people, we need REAL people." Diversity is so important especially working with children because you will be working with all different types of families and cultures. Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying to understand other cultures is really important so you can acknowledge any biases you might have and leave them at the door/overcome them while teaching. We don't always need to agree with different religions or cultures be we DO have to respect it because someone can feel as strongly about their lifestyle as you do yours. Perspective is key.

Teaching younger children comes with a lot of responsibilities such as planning out a curriculum, adjusting to your students and their needs and involving parents as well. I find it all very interesting and challenging because you can grow with your students. They can teach you and the parents can even teach you about different religions, cultures and just give you a different perspective. Adjusting and accommodating children is the most exciting/interesting to me!
