Only in 1865, after the Civil war, was adopted the thirteenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolishing slavery.

In the beginning, slaves were white people and Indians. White people if were unhappy with the could escape and blend in with crowd. Also, the Indians could escape, who knew the area, but they were not hardy and were prone to various diseases. Another thing the Negroes were very hardy and healthy, there was no one to stand up for them, they were cheap and when they escape they can easily be seen in the crowd.

So in the early 17 century Dutch ship had brought first black slaves from Africa.
