Slavery in the United States lasted almost 250 years. Only in 1865, after the Civil war, was adopted the thirteenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolishing slavery.

In the beginning, slaves were white people and Indians. White people if were unhappy with the could escape and blend in with crowd. Also, the Indians could escape, who knew the area, but they were not hardy and were prone to various diseases. Another thing the Negroes were very hardy and healthy, there was no one to stand up for them, they were cheap and when they escape they can easily be seen in the crowd.

So in the early 17 century Dutch ship had brought first black slaves from Africa.

Previously, people from Africa who worked on plantations were called Negroes. Now, if a white man says that word, he'll insult a black man. Because they have until today, this word means a slave, that is, a person who is not free, who belongs to someone. But black people call themselves and even laugh at it. Nowadays it is common to call black people African Americans. African Americans gained freedom and were freed from slavery in 1865.

If we talk about human rights in the past, we can say that people have been deprived of their rights. It seems to be right were the same for everyone, however, rich people or people who had a higher status could afford to abuse others. Rich people could afford to hire poor people, could also humiliate them and punish them for wrongdoing.
Previously, the rights of women and slaves were violated. For example, women did not have the right to vote and work. Slaves had no right to freedom (if the owner himself did not let go), to express their opinion and to receive education.

Today, every human being is born free and equal in dignity and rights. Nowadays there is a division into social strata. The rich can do what they want because they have money and connections. The poor must survive as they can. But everyone always and everywhere says that everyone is equal, everyone has the right to this and that.
The only thing that distinguishes us from the past is that at the moment there is no slavery and a person has the right to freedom. Although if you think about it, in our world there is slavery and just as a person can be forcibly deprived of freedom.
