The SDS launches the “Liberation University” which will be a series of rallies, lectures, and picnics to reshape university curriculum and administration. It started Friday night and ended at 2:45 am on Saturday. 40-60 students are punished as a result. 

The Third World Center was opened in October as a center for minority programs and events. 

After two years of planning, the ULA, under Larry Garcia y Griego ‘73 manages to host a Puerto Rican Studies Conference, with E. G. Rios ‘74 being the conference coordinator. The 3-day conference planned on having talks and workshops surrounding Puerto Rican issues and establishing Puerto Rican Studies programs. Professors and students on the East Coast participate, including representatives from the Young Lords. The Puerto Rican Studies Conference goes off course as students take over the conference on Saturday morning and force all of the white administrators to leave. The university decides not to call the police to avoid violence and lets the conference continue as 90% of the attendees were not Princeton students. The remaining students make resolutions calling for the creation of more Puerto Rican Studies programs in higher education, collective control of those programs, and propose the creation of a national organization of Puerto Rican students. They also began planning a national organization in March of next year.

Francisco J. Díaz de León ’74 and Larry García y Griego ’73 published an open letter to the University Admissions Board expressing grievances about the lack of Latino admitted students. The letter called into question then President-elect Bowen’s recent comments about the recent progress made in admitted students of color.
