A few time after the song's released, the group played it on an Italian TV channel, Rai 2. But they received the order to perform on play-back, what they all three can't stand. As a little revenge, they decided to switch their places : Matthew Bellamy stood on the drums and Dominic Howard on the singing and the guitar. If the fans found it funny, the anchorwoman didn't notice anything !

The meaning of the song

This song is about the power of people of manipulating, our our lack of awareness and the trial to unite all people together for an uprising.

The pace of the song is very particular. According to Matthew Bellamy, the aim was to add to the powerful meaning a "football-style chanting". Thanks to the drums' rythm, the song look like an hymn sung on a stadium. This reinforce the idea of the existence of a popular strenght which can and will lead to an uprising.

So, this music would therefore be a call for revolution against dictatorships and for rebellion against illegitimate policies. The group denouces also the bankers and the corrupts politicians who are only interrested on spending money anywhere and not on the people's interests.

"They will not force us, they will stop degrading us, they will not control us, we will be victorious"

This passage which is the chorus clearly express the urge to fight against these dictatorships, giving strength to the listeners.

Some words and sentences, such as "revolution", "rise up and take the power back",
"we have to unify and watch our flag ascend" and "so come on", describe a strong sense of unity and effervescence, which means that the population will not give up against these dictatorships, that together we can stand against anything.

We know this song for more than 10 years since it released in 2009. Even we were a little bit too young to remember it just after his release, we listened it few years later. For us it is a song of our childhood, and the rock and catchy pace have made it striking. Older, when we were able to understand the lyrics, we found the song stronger and more powerfull, delivering a message of rebellion and hope to the listeners.

We find a verse very powerful.

Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll if you could
Flick the switch and open your third eye, you'd see that
We should never be afraid to die.

These lines reflect the determination of the group to alert the people of the dangers of a society based on illegitimate policies. But it has also a huge message of hope, because this verse describes the uprising, the revolution, as an unavoidable movement, almost as a prophecy.
For the group, there as no doubt that the fight will be won.

In fact, the three artists alarm us about the situation, but they convey a message of strenght and hope, and haven't a desesperate point of view, which is obvious in this verse.
